Story
Yesterday I was a teenager waiting tables in Manhattan, and today, monsters exist and I can see them. Overnight I’m thrown into the realm of the Watchers, a society of earthbound angels split into two factions: the Shades, whose powerful dark magic is given to them by the fallen angels, and the Lumens, whose abilities are bestowed on them by the archangels of Avalon. They’re on opposite sides of a brutal war, and I only have a few days to pick which side I want to join. I’m ready to choose when the Shades force my hand by cursing someone I love.

Following a trail of blood into the woods isn't the smartest thing I’ve ever done, but when I find an injured wolf, I can’t bring myself to leave him behind. That decision might end up being my last, because when a pack of wolves tries to attack us, it looks like we won’t make it out alive. The next day when I wake up in my bed, it all feels like a dream…except for the bite mark on my arm and the fever. When a mysterious guy with searing blue eyes comes into my bar, hovering around me all night, I’m more than a little creeped out. It turns out I'm a newly turned werewolf....

Maddison James is about to discover some truths about the world. Firstly...supernaturals exist. WTF? Secondly...she is one, even though no one seems to know exactly what kind. Double WTF. Thirdly...she’s about to go back to school. Well, things just got a little more interesting. The Supernatural Academy is where shifters, vampires, magic users, and fey are educated. Where they are taught about their abilities, and how to function in the human world. Maddison already has the human part down, but this supernatural thing is an entirely new dangerous game.

As an environmental studies major, Allie knows the planet is in trouble - a series of natural disasters recently rocked the northern hemisphere, and species across the globe are going extinct. What Allie doesn't know is that her world's decline is a result of an ancient battle called the Night War - the Norse goddess Nott's crusade to control the weakest of the light realms. And Allie most definitely doesn't know that her existence is the only thing stopping Nott from dragging the earth into total darkness.

Story
Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing - the Alpha’s mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf. Instead of waiting for him to figure out that I’m an abomination, I left on my 15th birthday. But I didn’t go far. No way in hell would I let him drive me from the town I love. Ten years later, I’m still hiding in plain sight. When I occasionally see him on the street - deadly, sexy, powerful - I just walk by. Keep my head down. Until that night.

After I challenged the Blood Council's four shifter heirs at a college party, the last thing I expected was to receive a full scholarship and an admittance letter from the exclusive Wolf Moon Academy. Despite never desiring to be an alpha, this was an opportunity of a lifetime...or so I thought. I soon learned that there was more behind my admission to the Academy than my education. I was there to be a lesson to the heirs - in particular, the sexiest and strongest one, Liam Hale.

I make a living out of screwing over the jerks who capture and torment supernatural beasties. But when I free a bunch of particularly powerful monsters from their cages, I'm not counting on them following me home like lost puppies - stunningly hot lost puppies, but still. These manly monsters are determined to repay me for my help, and they won't get out of my apartment, until they're satisfied we're even. There's something to be said for allies so devoted they'll tear off heads and shred souls on your behalf. I'm all for joining forces.

Flirting with a fantastic listen
- By Demetra Toula Iliopoulos on 03-03-22
Summary
Brielle Atwater isn't sure of much, but she knows a few things:
- Having black wings is not normal.
- Selling her soul to the demons was a mistake.
- Lincoln Grey is the biggest asshole she's ever met...but not falling in love with him might prove impossible.
When angels fell from the sky to war with the demons that ravaged Earth, their combined powers infected humanity. Now, the humans are assigned one of two fates, being either demon-gifted or angel-blessed.
After wings sprout from Brielle's back at her awakening ceremony, she's sure she's an angel-blessed celestial. It's not until she sees black wings that she realizes something is terribly wrong.
Having sold her contract at a young age to save her father's life means she should be bound for Tainted Academy. That is, until a fallen angel unexpectedly fights for her to be accepted into Fallen Academy, the elite school for those who inhabit Angel City.
She's immediately matched with her impossibly handsome celestial teacher, Lincoln Grey. Laying eyes on him, her first thought is that her time at the academy might actually be fun, but this theory quickly fades when she and Lincoln clash on day one. To further prove her admission into Fallen Academy is cursed, the entire school is thrown into chaos when an Abrus demon reveals that he knows Brielle's secret. Now, above all else, Lincoln must fight to protect her.
To his surprise, the only thing more difficult than trying to save her...is trying not to fall for her.

Strictly for fans of the genre
If you like this genre and want a fun book that hits all the usual notes, this is for you.
For me, it's confirmed I don't like the genre. I found the protagonist unappealing but maybe some readers would like her.
My main complaint is the narrator, who has a repetitive rhythm and an annoying way of overemphasizing words. And please would someone tell her "archangel" is pronounced ARK-angel, not ARCH-angel.

An absolute page turner!
Brie is just so funny, a typical teenager that usually blurts out whatever she's thinking is aware of the fight between angels and demons but which side will she be on and does she have a choice? Her journey includes a few great friends and a Prophecy that was meant just for her. It also includes a couple of hunky warriors and four very cool archangels. I loved the different characters in this story and the plot so far is fantastic and action packed. I can't wait to start book 2!
The narrator Vanessa is fantastic and voices the characters really well, I've also listened to her read Life After which is also an amazing series. She has a lovely voice and puts every effort in to make the story come to life. I definitely recommend.

I did enjoy listening to Fallen Academy Year One but it could have been better. Still it was well written and well narrated. it was good enough for me to want to listen to the next book in the series. Narration was awful
I could get through the story, but the poor narration made it a lot harder. The forced distinct character voices were so bad that they ruined any immersion in the scenes. The male voices were especially forced and sounded like a child pretending to be an angry man, with a growling tone. If the narrator wasn't good at voices, she should not have done them at all.

Decent YA Novel
Not much to say really. its a decent YA novel with an interesting theme. Kind of your same old: main character is super special for some reason, they go to a school, there's a rivalry with 1 other classmate for no real good reason, there's a love interest, there's an evil force to fight against.
the author plays around with those tropes well enough for it to be interesting. worth the $5 sale price i paid.

Love the book, but unsure about the narrator
This book is pretty great. I bought it on a whim and am not disappointed! The author provides multi dimensional characters and a good amount of world building which is a huge plus in my book. The only thing that bothered me about the audiobook was the performance. The narrator would switch between saying "arch" and "arc" when saying things like "archangel". Also, I swear I heard her multiple times saying "Logan" instead of "Lincoln" for one of the main characters. It was a bit infuriating but once you get past the narrator's mistakes the story is really excellent.

Great performer, ok book
This was an alright book nothing to rave about outside of the narrator. Vanessa did the voice of Willa in The Curse of the God series and she continues to do an amazing job. The main character of the novel is very generic. She’s super over powered and of course “special”. It was annoying how she couldn’t stop thinking about how hot the boys are at the academy. I didn’t really feel like there was a connection between her and Lincoln. They hate each other one moment and then we are suppose to believe they start liking each other in a time jump after a “few” months have gone by. It was a very generic story line. I wouldn’t recommend wasting a credit on this novel. It had so much potential.
