About this listen

The Fawcett Green bell-ringers don’t bat an eyelid when Simone Hollingsworth fails to turn up to practice. They merely assume that bell-ringing has become the latest in a long list of her abandoned hobbies.

But then the increasingly strange behaviour of Simone’s husband, Alan, begins to raise neighbourly suspicions about her whereabouts. And when the discovery of a body draws Chief Inspector Barnaby to the village, it becomes clear that unravelling the couple’s tangled lives will have painful repercussions for the whole village...

"Satisfies on every level: wicked humor, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp characterizations." (Philadelphia Inquirer)

So typical of this writer. I would describe ms Graham's books as a cosy mystery with a major psychological "ick" factor. You don't easily get some of the characters out of your head. This specific story simply isn't as well paced and written as some of her others but still a lovely book. The reader is also excellent - sounds a lot like John Nettles - although some of the female "voices" are perhaps verging on irritating.

Cosy mystery that sticks.

A wonderful read with superb characterisation and first class narration by John Hopkins. Definitely recommended.

Absolutely superb!

Twists and turns, red herrings, complex characters all delivered with a light but masterful touch. Troy is nothing like the TV character. Prepared to love him or not. The narrator was superb. I’m actually sorry I’ve finished it.

Much better than the TV series
