Summary

The course of Frank Mackey's life was set by one defining moment when he was nineteen. The moment his girlfriend, Rosie Daly, failed to turn up for their rendezvous in Faithful Place, failed to run away with him to London as they had planned. Frank never heard from her again. Twenty years on, Frank is still in Dublin, working as an undercover cop. He's cut all ties with his dysfunctional family. Until his sister calls to say that Rosie's suitcase has been found. Frank embarks on a journey into his past that demands he reevaluate everything he believes to be true.

Critic reviews

Every holiday needs a good crime novel and French's skilful thrillers are tailor-made to terrify
Even more gripping than her last two. A truly amazing novel - so brilliant on dysfunctional family dynamics, with characters so real that you can hardly believe someone's made them up.
Gripping. Tana French's third novel hooks the reader from the outset; the characters are masterfully drawn, and the author's ear for Dublin dialogue is pitch-perfect.
A gripping, literate thriller laced with black humour
If you're only going to buy one thriller this year, let it be Tana French's Faithful Place. Searing, utterly Dub, and very funny . . . Tana French, Dublin author of international hits . . . is a wonder. Just don't plan anything if you pick this up; you won't be able to put it down.
Charming - will leave readers begging for a sequel
French copperfastens her reputation as an author of exceptional insight and talent.
She lifts the lid on Dublin and offers a haunting portrait of a man belatedly dealing with his demons

Where does Faithful Place rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best

What did you like best about this story?

Loved the characters, the mystery and the relationships and the twists and turns in a great story.

What does Gerry O'Brien bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Gerry made this book for me. He was so nice to listen to, loved his accent and he read it so well. I looked to see if he had narrated any more and was a bit disappointed to find he hadn't done any more of Tana French books.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did love this story. I listened continuously for hours, couldn't wait to hear what happened next.

Any additional comments?

I loved these characters, I really wanted to read some more, follow these characters, but as far as I know there are no follow up books. Perhaps in the future?

Loved the story, great narrator

Having listened to Broken Harbour, I thought nothing could be as good, however I think Faithful Place was better. Another brilliant narration lifted the story, and the characters were brought to life really well. The plot developed well and I was really sorry when I reached the end.

Another excellent Tana French

Stunning book

This has made French my favourite writer in this genre. I listened to 'Broken Harbour' by chance, loved it, thought another couldn't be that good. It was. French is so smart, gripping and wry. Sometimes I was really angry with Frank, sometimes I laughed with him; just as you do with your actual friends. And the suspense of the story! These stories are really keepers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Gripping, sad, every Irish mammy 'givvin out te ya'. Transported into a typical disfuntinal family. Conscience an all. Narration excellent. The writer a genius. I shared this book with my daughter saying...
This is one of those books I can hear your nudder Nana pretending she had nutten to do wit the liberties and thems people. It's a disfunctional family with secrets and lip. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a narrated book as much. I think the narrator did a better job than if it was just read unless you were from Dublin and can hear through this amazing writers voice. I laughed out loud barrelling down memory lane. Enjoy my darling.

I could hear my Dublin Nana all over this book.
