Story
When a parent singles out a child for special privileges and attention, that child is often unaware that the relationship is unhealthy - even incestuous. As adults, these children struggle to feel validated, because while they have not been directly abused, they feel a sense of violation and crossed boundaries - usually done in the name of 'love' and 'caring'. The parent's love feels more confining than freeing, more demanding than giving, more intrusive than nurturing. Yet these children suffer from what psychologist Kenneth Adams calls The Silent Seduction.

To help those stuck in codependent cycles identify and eliminate such troubling issues from their relationships, Beattie shares wisdom gained from years of experience.

The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

FINALLY ON AUDIBLE!
Been hoping for Pia Mellody or Patrick Carnes books to be available in audio books and was delighted to stumble on this just a few days after it was released. Not a fan of the narrator. He almost sounds sarcastic or put out by having to read hah! but if you can get past that, content is great! Also this particular title seems like you might also need a printed copy to actually do the writing assignments.
