About this listen

Two teens meet and bond when they are forced to visit their respective parents in neighboring apartments every other weekend. A sparkling, nuanced, and emotional listen for fans of Rainbow Rowell, Morgan Matson, and Julie Buxbaum.

Heartbreak brought them together...will love tear them apart?

Adam's life used to be awesome. Straight As, close friends, and a perfect home life. Then his oldest brother died. Now his mom cries constantly, he and his middle brother can't talk without fighting, and the father he always admired moved out when they needed him most.

Aspiring director Jolene's life is nothing like the movies she loves - not the happy ones anyway. With her divorced parents at each other's throats and using her as a pawn, no amount of mental reediting will give her the love she’s starving for.

Forced to spend every other weekend in the same apartment building, the boy who thinks forgiveness makes him weak and the girl who thinks love is for fools begin an unlikely friendship. The weekends he dreaded and she endured quickly become the best part of their lives. Have Jolene and Adam found something real? Or is their connection doomed from the start?

They’ll find out...every other weekend.

I think one of the reasons I loved the book so much was because I could relate so much to the situation of the characters and it made me feel less lonely. There were some bits that made me cry that usually wouldn’t have but the performances made me. It was so perfectly worded that I felt like I wasn’t in my room anymore and I was In the book. It really helped me escape. And that’s why I absolutely LOVED it!!

Such an amazing story!! Absolutely LOVED it!

I stumbled across this book on the featured page on the app thinking I’d give it a try and I’m so glad I did. It is a story exploring the genuine and vulnerable journey of meeting and falling in love with someone, especially at a young age and dealing with all the complications that can come with that. It explores their interpersonal relationships and the effect this has on the web of characters and how they navigate some of the heavy scenarios life throws at us. I would caution a trigger warning for domestic violence, sexual assault, neglect and death. It is not a dark or particularly heavy book but it does feature these themes within the characters stories. However I want to draw appreciation to how the author brings awareness to these issues in a thoughtful and tactful manner without using it purely for “shock factor”. These would often be subjects that could easily switch me off a book due to the sensitive and triggering manner of them but the author addresses them in a way that allowed me to engage and journey through them with the characters. The narration was also fantastic from both voice actors, really immersing you in the story the whole way through. This is quite a long listen in total but I’m so glad it was because I couldn’t stop listening and found myself doing so at every chance I got. Thank you for bringing me further into the wonders of fiction and I am very excited to explore all your other titles as soon as I can.

I think I’ve found a new favourite author

One thing I loved about this book was how it mentioned topics that are sometimes difficult to read/talk about/hear but are still extremely important to discuss. Topics like rape and divorce (which are mentioned in the book) don’t -usually- come up in conversation but still happen in life and that means that however terrible they might be it is important to talk about and notice. In conclusion I really liked this book, and not just for the reason mentioned above, but also because I loved the storyline.

Great book excellent topics that are mentioned

The story was a very good one. For those interested in ya genre, this ya romance is very sweet and interesting. The plot is a simple one but it is kind of soothing to listen to. Thank you very much!

A sweet entertaining story!

Very slow pace with intense in depth descriptions of feelings and emotions. Interesting view of teenage love and family grief. Some might find it a bit gushy.

slow and very detailed
