More Grown up than book one

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was very excited when I finally got to read the next instalment.

We jump right in where the first book ended. It's full of action and is a little more grown up than book one. A bit like the later books of Harry Potter here the characters start to show who they really are and not all of them have Eve's best interests at heart.

I loved the multiple POVs. In book one we had Eve and Bram, in this book we also have Michael. For the narration, each POV had a different narrator which helped to separate the differences.

Gi and Tom manage to write so perfectly together. If you didn't know there were two authors then you wouldn't be able to tell. The story just flows.

Like book one this ended on a cliffhanger and I'm dying for the third part!

An enjoyable listen

This was a nice continuation of the story. I didn't find is as gripping as the first, but it was still enjoyable and I look forward to the next book.

Expectedly enjoyable - unexpectedly predictable

I really enjoyed Eve of Man, and while The Eve Illusion is similarly full of detailed descriptions, compelling characters and self-reflections, I admit I found it frustrating this time. Being a more action based novel this time, I found I just wanted the story to move faster! With long thoughts from tortured souls, it can be hard work to listen to at times, although overall worth the effort.

The story was unexpectedly more predictable than I’d hoped, with the twists seeming obvious, however the EPO’s true purpose is increasingly exposed, which brings some satisfaction and there is plenty of heroism and drama. It ends on another cliffhanger, so be prepared to wait patiently for book 3 which I believe isn’t due until 2023?

The narration of Michael, who Eve referred to in book one as a YOUNG man, was read by a more mature (and very proper) sounding voice that didn’t seem to fit the character. The entire narration would have benefited from being less read and more acted, particularly the voice of Eve - a girl obsessed with the real, but who speaks in a lingering voice as if her every word is poetry.

Overall, an enjoyable and worthwhile read. The Eve Illusion would especially shine as a film!

really compelling read

Great 2nd book following on from 'Eve Of Man'. really gripping at times and a couple of twists I wasn't expecting. I feel the ending was a tad predictable but given the nature of the book it was inevitable. Overall a great read and would recommend to anyone who enjoys books such as the hunger games trilogy and / or the maze runner books as you will likely enjoy this as I did. cannot wait for the 3rd installment!
