The Philpotts
What an odious couple. Evil, selfish and only concerned with their own lives ...those poor children having parents like these. Young lives snubbed out. Life in prison isn't long enough.

Chilling Nuggets
I've actually listened to a few of these now and while they aren't breaking any real new ground on the crimes covered I've found them quite fascinating. The use of real audio from 999 calls and police interviews is actually an extremely effective way of making it real for the listener. The very opening to this first episode is utterly chilling and hearing the voice of an excruciatingly young sounding ten year old confess to killing James Bolger is near surreal.
What also strikes home is the sheer duplicitous nature of some of the people involved. Some of the crimes and the way that the people involved behave are actually so incredible that I can't help wonder if I've been a bit harsh on some of the thriller writers I've reviewed and criticised for their lack of realism. The real world does contain these absolute outliers.
The episodes themselves do a good job of telling the story without getting bogged down in detail and I will continue to use the remaining ones as interludes between books. They are a good value add feature of the overall Audible experience..
As the episodes say though there are some elements of the audio that some people could be reasonably expected to find unpleasant including the real audio examples I mentioned above and some of the graphic detail of the crimes so go into it with your eyes open on that point.

Hero???? You are joking
Found this series on Audible, not only is it free its rather interesting to listen.
This is the large family who got the nickname of scroungers that deliberately set fire to their family home and as a consequence killed their children because they wanted five minutes of fame. For what they did they got that and more.

Horrendous true story!
I like that these books have recordings of the real life people. Makes the whole set a really good listen.

Well presented ITN documentary of a heinous crime
The case of the Philpotts is well covered in just 23 minutes. Only one thing, though - it's not made entirely clear what the motive was. Was Philpott trying to frame his ex-partner at the scene of the crime, while at the same time attempting to appear the hero by rescuing his own children? This is skimmed over and I was left slightly in doubt.

The Philppotts
To be honest with you I've only read the views of some of the people who have read it.
After thinking about the stories I've decided that I don't want it in my library.
Unfortunately I can't see or find a way to delete the book!! Is there a way to achieve this.
Yours sincerely W MOYLAN
