Disappointing adaptation

I’m a huge fan of Woolf’s book and I also loved Sally Potter’s film adaption so I was looking forward to this new version with the promise of a ‘new queer reading’ However I found this adaptation lacking the irony, beauty and wonder of the book. I’d recommend reading or listening to the original book and giving this a miss.

Arty - very Not reccommended

I didn't like this book at all.
The music and voices irritated me and the lack of strong story-line failed to hold my attention.
It might suit someone more highbrow than I.

Orland is a fave but not in this adaptation..

..it is a challenging text, written as a personal love story full on "in" jokes.

But there is a spirit to channel in the original and its just not heRe. That charm is all personified in the first person narrator of Orlando.

Its not that I object to the use of the Muses per se, nor one of them being non-binary on the male-female identity line - and there r plenty of those to choose in greek mythology, as IRL.

Its that their first person insight gives orlando their entire charm during their life changes. We do no need the views of a supreme court of woke to vindicate, or illuminate, tht internal journey.

A beautiful original story with talented cast

Love this book. The intent was commendable but the layers of message crushed the delicacy of the story completely. The messages are important but weighed heavily on what is a very intricate tale. A real shame. I wanted to like it but found it disappointingly muddy.

Poor writing

The style of writing is all the sentences crashing together, it’s still ment to flow or not annoy the reader, it’s awful

Wonderful

Beautiful adaptation and performance, lively and with a wonderful resonance to today’s questions. Great performance from the actors.
