Summary

We first met Flavia Albia, Falco's feisty adopted daughter, in The Ides of April. Fully Engaged With Informer Flavia Albia
This second book in the series devotes good time to better know Flavia Albia. She is no fool, understands her weaknesses and does pursues information and her hunches. It was rewarding to spend time with a character that allows the listener to remember who helped bring her up and shape her. A close Rome focus to this novel adds to the intensity of the investigations pursued by Flavia Albia. She deftly shows heart in the way that she deals with slaves who are under the microscope for the murder of their master and mistress. Her own interests are developed and listeners will find themselves willing-on a relationship just as we did with Falco and Helena, many novels previous. At least I did. I am now fully on-board with this series and I hope others embark too. Fully recommended.

thoroughly enjoyable
I even repeated a few chapters. Lucy Brown has exactly the right tone in narration. Great intriguing plot and an emerging romance. Couldn't wish for anything better.

Lindsey Davis can't fail
I mourned the end of the Falco books, so Flavia Albia is.like welcoming home a long lost friend. loved it.

A gripping story
The second in this series convinced me that I will enjoy it as much as I did Falco’s. It’s a great story, with strong characters and suspense that kept the pages turning!

Where does Enemies at Home rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Not the top listen but would happily listen again. This second book in the series is much better. Straight into the story.

Missing Falco....
Where does Enemies at Home rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's not at the very top of the list but I enjoyed listening to it, and I will probably listen to it again - so among the top 20
What did you like best about this story?
I like the character of Flavia Albia. I enjoyed the story, but at times I did find myself wondering 'Would this really have happened in Ancient Rome?" and that distracted from the story a bit
What about Lucy Brown’s performance did you like?
I thoroughly enjoyed Lucy Brown's reading - it made the book for me. I wasn't sure about the posh accent she gave to Flavia Alba, till I remembered that her mother is a senator's daughter. I thought she voiced the male characters well too.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I didn't find this story quite as convincing or as gripping as the first story or the Falco books. That didn't stop me enjoying it, and I will get the next in the series.

Beware Slaves
Good story revolving around of the live of Raman's slaves, I still don't believe the voice is quite right, especially for a 1st person narrative.

A beautiful and twisted mystery
I love Lindsey Davis’ style. Her characters and descriptions are full of life but written so expertly that we readers uncover details with the story. Oh, and what a story!

Much better!
The story is better than book 1, and got better throughout! Thoroughly enjoyable. Cant wait to read the next one! A gentler feel than the Falco series but I like that.
