Story
"The Suck" - the virus that claimed 97 percent of humanity - is gone. The arrival of other survivors with a different take on the future may be as dangerous as the virus itself. In the middle, with their hands on the scales, is a group of former soldiers and civilians who survived the virus in Antarctica. They’ve arrived to find a dead world, with no rules. The best-selling story of Jason, Pro, and Rachel continues where End of Summer, book one of the Seasons of Man series, left off.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Summary
When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

Why do men always turn into animals in these?
Good narrator, reasonably sympathetic characters, fairly coherent and well written, but why-o-why must men always turn instantly into murderous, insane, gun-toting animals in these stories? Why is there never anything about humanity getting together, supporting each other and rebuilding.

Excellent book!
To start off, this isn't your so-called prepper porn. I like apocalyptic, end-of-world stories but I highly dislike the prepper porn, right-leaning stories. This isn't that. It's a great adventure story in a post-apocalyptic setting with strong, likeable and well-written main characters. If I had to compare it to something (and this is probably partially due to Jay Snyder narrating): it feels a bit like a Gray Man story in a different setting. And I'm saying this in the most positive way :). If you like Jay Snyder (he's doing an excellent job by the way) and the Gray Man stories, you'll feel well at home with this book, Highly recommended and looking forward to the next one!

Best of the best
I am a harsh critic that gets bored easily . As a retired LEO and US Army veteran I cringe at many a dystopian audio book, yet keep buying and listening.
This book was different.
First the narrator is the best yet, period. Sorry Mr. Pierce .
Second the plot and characters are entirely plausible.
Third one has to actually listen as predictably is not on the menu.

I love everything about this book
Now I have to wait a while for the next book in the series. Bummer! I love the main protagonist, Jason. He is strong, caring and extremely competent as a killer/soldier. He wants to help people, such as Pro, a teenage boy who has also survived the plague and has been living on his own for months before Jason finds him. There are several other likable characters, both male and female, and the bad guys are really bad, which is always fun. The bad guys have taken control over their part of the world and created their control center and food/supply storage in a Mall. They are kings of the world - or at least of their world. They force people to serve them and Jason doesn't like that situation at all. Should he get involved? The author tells a gripping story and created vivid characters.
The narrator is very good. He does not overreach to try to give accents or to portray female voices. He does one notable accent - the British or South African one for Rachael,
Jay Snyder does not get in the way of the story and leaves the listener free to listen to this great book without distraction.

Great narration, story was alright I guess
I’m a big fan of this genre and I love Jay Snyder from the grey man series. That being said, I don’t think this is as good as “one second after” or “after it happened”. It follows the same kind of formula that this genre usually follows with the libertarian spin although I found this one to be particularly unsubtle. The white main character loses his family and becomes the protector of an illegal Mexican immigrant, two young women, a black guy and a Jew who fight against literal evil white racist slave owners/rapists/ pedophiles. Again, not very subtle. I just wish that for once I could read a series that has a more realistic depiction of the “bad guys” instead of a clearly agnostic left leaning libertarian fantasy. By the time I made it to the last 3 hours I found that I didn’t really care what happened to these people and I decided to end it and go back to finishing the 40K Horus heresy series that I find to be much more engaging.

Light on Pandemic - Strong on Story and Characters
The details of the pandemic were a little light, that's not a criticism, just an observation. The story was fabulous and I enjoyed every second of it. This is my 299th audio book so I can get a little jaded, but I thoroughly enjoyed this listen. The gun details were spot on, which s rare. Can't wait for the sequel.

Very macho man book- Clint Eastwood style.
I thought the performance of this book was excellent, his voice certainly seemed to be just what was needed for the main character.
I realize in SHTF scenarios you probably need a man like Jason however the cliché comments and the over the top machoism was just a little bit too much to take.
He has a heart don’t get me wrong but the detail about who was spurting blood from what orifice and all of that kind of stuff was just too much. Was hoping they would be more about the pandemic rather than it just short introductory paragraph or two. The rest was all about shoot them Up stuff and gory detail.
