The story was good. I love a disaster storyline and this certainly was a different take on that genre, with that being important but not the main issue. there were a lot of protagonists and some things were concluded surprisingly fast at time. I struggled with the eternal optimism of some characters, but it didn't stop me listening. I was hooked.

First of all it felt like the beginning was missing (turns out there is prequel novela written separately) In fact, all 7 books should be condensed into one because nothing much happened apart from some infighting and lots of romance. I was hoping to read a survival thriller but there was little actual surviving and no planning by any of the characters either. None of the main characters were likable and very one dimensional. For an ex Marine and a prepper girl, they really aren't that smart. It started OK but as it progressed I was hoping for more info on why the power went out and who/what caused it. Sadly we never get to find out. None of the dull characters seem to care anyway and the books end abruptly barely 3 weeks into the disaster with no answers.
If you want a decent EMP survival story read Edge of Collapse by Kyla stone and disregard this. This series by Sam J Fires seems to be a Temu ripoff of that anyway
