Just what every Parent should read.

I now feel much more confident. It made me think about the mistakes my parents made, that I had not realized where mistakes. There I felt sad. But I have also understood the varied differences that have effect the lives of other people I know for the better. And some of the advice and research in this book is really eye opening. I happy for the knowledge, and would really recommend this book to anyone.

Excellent child rearing book

I found this book extremely insightful and useful in raising my four children. It was suggested by a child psychologist acquaintance at church. The suggested techniques and guidelines shared can benefit any parent looking to raise aware, self confident, well balanced children. It helped me from passing down some of my character defects to my child by educating me on tools to help my kids understand social cues and who they are in a complex, emotionally demanding society and world they live in. It helped me too!

Good principles, Well defined

The book does a good job of providing a framework for helping children grow emotionally in healthy ways, with good examples, broken into phases, and the right caveats. Accepting that it is not a one size fits all solution, this book also focuses on appropriate times and approaches to the method, with good examples of when not to emotion coach.

Help your children and yourself

This book has changed how I parent. For me it’s not just about how to interpret a child’s actions and frustrations but more importantly my own. My own upbringing meant I never learned how to properly recognize emotions, label them, understand them and ultimately be in a position of self control. This book has for the most part help resolve a lot of that and means that the cycle between generations can be broken. When you sit down to read this book be prepared for a lot of self reflection and introspection. To understand your children you’ll need to understand yourself first. A fantastic read.
