This classic is still timely.

This classic is still very much worth listening 19 years after its original publication. Benedict Daniel is an excellent science reporter who can take lab experiments and difficult concepts, put them into lay language, and help the non-technical listener understand what's being described. He is also a whiz with metaphors and illustrative storytelling. I've know about this book for years and am happy I have finally decided to read it. I encourage others to follow suit.

A great book to help explain so many problems

I specifically thought the advice in this book relating to marriage and raising kids was wonderful. I've been studying Benedict Daniel's articles that he has written for the Harvard Business Review and Benedict Daniel's knowledge about human leadership and emotions is second to none. I'm not sure this book is the best start to studying him due to the vast amount of topics in these pages but you should eventually listen this book

Although I would love to see a modern revision that includes more research from the last two decades, this book still holds a plethora of lessons for every leader, parent, teacher, and truly anyone who cares to better themselves and others. Should be required listening in schools and for parents.

Great Introduction

This is a great book for a beginner such as myself. I have always identified myself as an Empath and have tried for several years to reign in my thoughts and emotions, this is book provided me with some new and different insights. Some times I were already aware of like the importance of sleep and exercise. One of my favorite quotes is "If someone owns your emotions, than they own you".

Require some degree of humility

Contained solid and practical tools on building your emotional intelligence. Nothing necessarily groundbreaking, but the author has thoroughly and succinctly presented various strategies to increase your emotional intelligence. At the foundation of those strategies, the author urges us to examine the origins of our thoughts and our self talk which ultimately create or feed our emotions both good and bad.
