Summary

A lot has been written on mental health. Yet, a lot is still undiscovered and unexplored as a part of our global approach to mental illnesses. For quite a long time, we have aimed for flying cars, yet no one fundamentally aspires for a world where mental peace and sustenance remain accurate reflections of our progress in science and technology.

This book directly refers to emotions, one of the pillars in depressive symptoms. Depression is a complex subject, and we will learn how to approach it. Facts and information relating to depression must have scientific or clinical validation. This book aims to bring forward clinical insights, key facts, research-backed behavioral patterns, and therapies that have been useful in fighting depression, anxiety, and alike. It primarily draws an overarching analysis of an individual’s emotional state, how emotions work, emotional patterns, theory, and analysis of emotional intelligence, growing emotional intelligence quotient, emotional learning, and guided techniques to manage emotions.

Furthermore, this book will highlight the factor - depression hates a moving target. It brings about cathartic ideas and how individuals battling depression can overcome their symptoms by increasing action in life, which anchors their mental state towards aspects of life that matter. It will also highlight the commercial use of emotion and personalization.

Bringing futuristic reference of emotional intelligence in design, marketing, business, we outline emotions and their ubiquity in our lives. As emotional intelligent design and personal content are successful, it allows consumers to relate more and grow a sense of belonging toward a brand or business. The advent of mental health and its awareness has transformed business practices, pushing brands to humanize more.

We have a long fight, and we are in this together.

A practical, compassionate guide!

One of the better "self-help" guides I've listened to quite some time. Contains many useful strategies for work, parenting & every stressful situation in between.

Growing positive psychology library

This is a great addition to my growing collection of positive psychology listenings.

I would easily recommend to the newly curious and to the well-versed practitioners. R. Breton offers new perspectives with tangible tips for implementation. Really helpful for me.

Impressive!

The first three chapters--if I recall exactly--tell you the purpose of the book. While the book keeps a good pace, there came a point. However, I kept at it a bit longer--and I'm glad I did. The author did eventually get to it, and some of the insights helped me.

Very Helpful!

This audiobook has great ideas in it, it makes sense, it just didn't get me in a position where I could do something with that information. Still a good listen, and I recommend it for anywhere looking for a place to start if they're feeling like the world is against them and they can't keep their head above water.

So helpful if you struggle with triggers

I grab this audiobook for my brother. The author describes the ways in which we get “hooked” by old narratives and teaches how to move through that reactive system by facing our thoughts and feelings, detaching from them, connecting with our values, and taking action in alignment with those values. Interesting!

Eye opening!

As someone who is pretty self-aware but only just now dabbling into my deeper issues (self-esteem being my core struggle), I found this book to be supremely helpful. It offered me a ton of AHA! moments on how I relate to myself and others. It put into perspective that self-esteem isn't the prize at the end of treatment or work -- it's the actual work you do.

Learn from this expert!

I bought this book when it first came out, have listened to it a couple of times. I think it's so important I recently bought it as a gift for my best friend.

If you sink that truth deep into your life and become your own rescuer, believe me, your life WILL change.

So helpful during the pandemic.

At a moment where it is so easy to fall back into old habits, The Pillars helped snap me out of a negative cycle and reinforced many things I have been learning in therapy. It is easy to listen if you have a grasp of the fundamentals of psychology. I also liked that he provided cultural contexts for his theory, specifically American culture. He also discusses gender, race, age, and lived experience as influences on our self-esteem, which I also appreciated.

For one's personal development journey

In my opinion, this is a fantastic book to start with for anyone beginning their own personal development journey. The 6 pillars of self-esteem lay the foundation for making any other book you read, the technique you try, or endeavor you take on more successful. One can't help but start building their self-esteem when one consciously puts the pillars into practice.

Lovely audiobook!

This book is timely, relevant, and accessible. You don't have to be a subject matter expert to understand the content of Breton's book, which was a positive for me. Now, more than ever, it's necessary to understand how to design for people's well-being. I regularly reference the checklist for Designing with Emotional Design & Emotional Agility to Manage Self-Esteem Pillars in my role as a user researcher. If you work in tech, this should be on your must-listen list!

Like it very much.

Something can be easy to use and make us miserable at the same time. Breton, sets out to right this wrong by asking: what if we could embrace our emotional relationship with technology and use the latest cross-disciplinary research to reboot the industry? You won’t find code samples or tedious how-tos. What you will find is a charming, witty, and thoughtfully illustrated series of thought-bombs to help a broken industry break out of its old ways of doing things.

A great book to start becoming a better person

This book is a great starting point if you want to be a better employee, leader, friend, and romantic partner. You may be amazed at how low your score is in the beginning, but the online program that comes with it offers great support on your journey to be a better person. It’s not going to be the sole thing that gets you there. You’ll still need to find other resources if you want to keep growing. But this book makes it easier to set a baseline so you’ll be able to measure your growth.
