Summary

Tom Roberts has been aware from childhood that mysterious events once occurred at his grandfather's remote country house, but has no idea of exactly what happened there. Years later, when he spends a short break at the property, the horrifying past comes vividly to life as ghosts rise from their graves to reveal deeply buried family secrets.

Great short story

Loved it. Was a nice short ghost story in between longer thrillers i have been reading. I have read other stories by this author and enjoyed them too. Bonus that I got a free code to read it too.

The book didn't quite live up to my expectations!

I always start a horror book with some trepidation. Will it be too much for me? Will it be too scary or will the antagonists be too horrifying? Can I handle it? But by some quirk of nature I do enjoy a good ghost story! I want to feel shivers run up my neck, without any jump scares! I found half of what I wanted. Emily's Evil Ghost is a pretty straight forward haunting, but unfortunately it didn't really give me any of the tingles that I had hoped for.

Great listen!

This is one of the shorter books I’ve read but it’s definitely one I didn’t want to stop listening to. Emily’s ghost and evil ways will definitely keep you in shock.

Suspenseful

Very interesting story. I could not stop listening. I just had to know what was going to happen next. To know what secrets would be uncovered. They were just WOW! Not at all what I was expecting. The story is excellent and the narrator did an amazing job.

Just enough 'spook'

DATE HEARD: 01/15/21 REVIEW: I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. Would you listen to Emily's Evil Ghost again? Yes. Why? I would listen to it again to see if there are any little tidbits I might have let slip by during my first listen. I am not the type of person who enjoys 'watching' horror movies, (I don't like being scared), but I find I do enjoy listening to them in audiobook format. I find I can enjoy the story line more if I'm not waiting for the next thing to jump out and scare me. This was a really good family history story with just enough 'spook' thrown in. The characters were very interesting. I look forward to hearing another book written by Geoffrey Sleight as well as one narrated by Howard J. Davey.

Wow very very wicked girl

Before I get into the book let me say Mr. Davey gave an excellent performance now reading this book what a wonderful narrator. A man goes to visit his grandfather in a country village at a home he remembers where he spent a childhood summer with his parents his biggest memory is of waking up and seeing a ghost in a red dress with the blue ribbon in her hair. Little does he know this ghost will make another appearance and not my only explain the many disappearances that happen on the grounds but about his family history he’s never heard. This is a very good horror book heavy on the spooky. This girl is wicked she is wicked and OMG did I say she’s wicked. Leave it to Mr. slight to write a book about a sweet cherub who is actually pretty vicious and oh yes wicked. I love this book I wish he had more books as I have read all of his books and can’t wait for the next one. This book is so freaking good!

Not MR James, but....

I did enjoy this good old fashioned ghost story. Very reminiscent of works by early 20th century writers, such as MR James. It’s always fun to discover an author with potential, such as Mr. Sleight. I look forward to reading/listening to more of his work.
