Summary

Can a human heart withstand the flames of a dragon’s soul?

For centuries, the dragons of Kalleen have ruled the skies. Blessed by the goddess of fire, those born of her power are destined to exist within two worlds while fully belonging to neither.

As the youngest daughter of the dragon queen, Amelia has always been torn between her humanity and winged form. In meeting Stephen, she found a blossoming love that gave her hope of finding balance. But it is a dream destroyed when her sister, and future queen, sets her sights upon the same man.

Forced from her lover’s side, Amelia embraces a self-imposed exile, taking refuge in the northern mountains. In this new life of solitude, she banishes painful memories by retreating to her dragon form, sheltering the wounded girl within. Yet it is an isolation that cannot last, as the new dragon queen’s cruelty bears down upon the kingdom, allowing an ancient enemy to rise.

Drawn from her banishment by the pleas of friends, Amelia must choose. Will she embrace the destructive beast within? Or draw upon the frail humanity that lingers dimly in her soul, in a desperate attempt to help her people and mend a broken heart?

Enjoyable

Audiobook Review

I listened to this in a day. The narrator has an engaging voice and I found it easy to get on with my activities while enjoying the story.

Kalleen is the youngest daughter of the dragon queen. When her sister takes the throne. Kalleen is sent away. She looses her home and her boyfriend, but the fate her sister has set upon her is worse than both.

Kalleen escapes and her eyes are open to a new world. One not protected by her royal blood. Once the truth is seen you can’t go back. Kalleen needs to find her true place in the world.

This was unique and interesting. The book talks us through the back stories of quite a few characters and in this case it worked well. The picture slowly built of a world of hope.

4.5 stars out of 5. I received an ARC as part of the audiobook tour. My review is honest and my own.

Dragons!

At the very beginning it seems a little slow but after a short while, Amelia's life is completely uprooted by her sister's reign. Amelia's unintentional actions lead her to become withdrawn and secluded. This is a second chance romance but more so one in which the individual finds love again with someone new after being completely devastated. I loved the Dragon shifter aspect of the story. I love that we get to see Amelia grow and strengthen as a character as she learns to embrace her dragon.

The narrator does a good job of giving us a performance that fits the setting and characters well. We are aware that the story is set in a kingdom but we maintain a constant feeling of being in a medieval/regal setting just based off of the narrators voice alone which really adds to the story.

Fascinating characters and world. Great narration

This story and these characters were beautifully brought to life by Kylie Stewart.

I found it to be a really interesting story. The idea behind the whole thing is not one I have come across in this way before. The customs of the world intrigued me. I loved watching Amelia as she worked through everything that was thrown at her. I spent time cheering her on in my head. It's a great start to a series.

pretty good but wanted more

I really enjoyed this book. Honestly give me dragons any day and I'm pretty invested. I really liked Amelia's character. She was strong and had her morals aligned but was very vulnerable as well. Traits like this really help make a character more relatable. While most of the story was predictable I was definitely engaged the entire time. Even though I liked the story and it was engaging, I just felt like nothing really happened. I wished there was more to the story. It went by very fast. I also wasnt a big fan of the other characters back stories. They were important to the story but I feel like they could have been done through conversation instead of chapters. This would have opened up the story line for something more. Although there were a couple of things that didn't work for me, overall I really enjoyed this. with how the book ended I'm very curious on how the rest of the series will turn out.

Audio review (please note this does not affect my rating of the book)
I really enjoyed the narration of this book. The voice as really nice to listen to and I felt like she emulated Amelia well. My only issue was there wasn't much difference of affliction in the other characters voices. I really had to make sure I was following the conversation and who was actually speaking. I would still recommend this audio though.

Great Start & Vivid World Building

This was a really good start to a new dragon shifter series! Amelia is the youngest daughter from the previous dragon queen which leaves her torn between her humanity and dragon form. When she met Stephen, she gave up the battle and focused on her love for him, but unfortunately her sister has her sights set on him as well. The story starts off with Amelia’s sister’s coronation which the queen chooses to sentence her to the temple to be a voice for the gods, a fate worse than death. She disobeys her sister’s orders and chooses to go to the northern mountains to be an exile and live out the rest of her days. But the people being treated poorly by the new queen have other plans and she must choose to help them or remain an exile. The world building that KL created was absolutely amazing along with the vivid descriptions and scenery. I loved the midievil feel of this book with the characters as knights, dragons, damsels in distress, queens, and princesses. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Kylie did a great job with this narration! Her voice drew me in from the start and her English accent was perfect for this book. I liked the different voices she used for each character and the flawless flow between them made it easy to distinguish who was talking.

Embracing the Dragon

Enjoyed this story. Amelia is betrayed by both her sister and her lover. She hides in the mountains spending most of her time in dragon form. Can she save her people from her sister? Can she save herself from the dragon taking control? The book ends on cliffhanger.

Amazing Read....Ends On Cliffhanger

Embracing The Dragon by K.L. Bone is book one in the Flames Of Kalleen Series that I listened to on audio narrated by Kylie Stewart. This is the first book by K.L that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last one. She does an amazing job pulling you into the story. Kylie did an amazing job narrating. She uses different voices for the characters which made it easy to follow along. The book does end on a cliffhanger but book two Releasing The Dragon is already released. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal/shifters books.

The narrator was good, Just slightly slow for my tastes. I did enjoy the story again. I still held my breath in some places just like when I read it the first time. I can see myself rereading it several more times I'd the future!!

I absolutely loved this book!

While I've never really been into shifter books I thought I would give this a try since I loved the Black Rose Series. I was not disappointed!! K.L. Bone really makes you see the world she has built and you come to love the characters. I loved watching Amelia grow into the strong woman she becomes by the end. She has such compassion for others and will stand up to protect the innocent. I would definitely recommend this and I can't wait for the next one in the series.

Loved it!

Intrigue, drama, and suspense. This book has it all. If you want to read royal high court drama then this is the book for you.

Just be prepared for the heroine to take forever to come to the conclusion that she can and should make a difference instead of hiding within herself.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the voice of the narrator. Perfect choice!

Wow!!

Wow! The story was brought to life by the wonderful narrator. Bravo Miss Stewart.
Dragons, royalty, and deceit make for an awesome story. I love the author’s writing style and the way she breathes life into these characters. The stories never end up like you think they will and I appreciate that. This story left me wanting more and I hope there is! I give this 5 stars.

Embracing the Dragon

Embracing the Dragon is the first installment from The Flames of Kalleen series. It is, also, the first book I have read by KL Bone. I enjoyed this story. The writing style was different and unique, which was refreshing. I liked reading something that is new and different and something outside of my comfort zone. Amelia is an admirable character full of strength and courage. I loved hearing the Kylie Stewart’s narration of the book and having her performing Amelia's tale.
I give Embracing the Dragon four and a half stars. I look forward to the next installment in The Flames of Kalleen series.

Great narration, Pulls you in

Listened on Audible. The narrator’s accent was lovely. Her voice really fit the story and she gave an excellent performance.

Well-written and I loved the dragon shifter aspect. This is a pretty depressing book for the majority of the story, but the story did pull me in; I just would’ve liked a bit more happy. If you read the premise, you know things aren’t going to go very well for Amelia, so the whole beginning of the story I was cringing because I knew it would be brutal. Amelia’s sister is a horrible person; she’s a prime example of why monarchies shouldn’t automatically pass down to the eldest.

Amelia is forced to join the priestess temple; which isn’t a honor at all, some really messed up things happen there. Amelia is the main character we follow, but we get a couple other tales of woe. Lots of depressing stuff going on in this Kingdom; makes me not think to kindly for Amelia’s mother either. Amelia’s a tough cookie and manages to make a semblance of a life for herself, when she hears word of her sister’s corrupt practices.

I was liking Amelia for the whole story, but the way she acted when she was asked for help was deplorable. She was totally naive about her sister; very disappointed in how she handled it and other things further down the line. Her soft heart may come back to bite her in the butt. She does have some great strength; both mental and physical, but she lets her upbringing blind her to the truth at times.

I loved the bit of romance to the story. Love how supportive Connor is and the chemistry is there. Some steamy times!

Overall, I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next book!
