About this listen

Arcady and Everen have been separated, parted by the Veil.

Alone in Vatra, Arcady embarks on their greatest con yet: posing as a noble student at the University, determined to prove their grandsire's innocence once and for all.

Imprisoned in Vere Celene, Everen is hated by his kind. When he is released to defend his people, visions of the past and the future haunt him. If he steers the wrong path, he may never create a future where humans and dragons can live in harmony.

Time is running out. Threats rise from Arcady's old life and their new. And between the worlds, an ancient danger is awakening. Together Arcady and Everen can face it - but only if they can find their way back to each other and restore the trust that has been broken.©2024 Laura Lam

Critic reviews

A queer-norm world with new ways of telling tales, L. R. Lam is breaking boundaries and binaries yet again with a brilliant fantasy book that you won't want to miss
Dragonfall is fresh and exciting fantasy, full of treachery, romance and kaleidoscopic world-building. You will gladly lose yourself in L. R. Lam's creation
Dragonfall is a soaring good time from start to finish, and has plenty for fantasy fans to love: an intriguing world, forbidden romance, unique magic, and of course, as many dragons as your heart could possibly desire
With a queernorm cast that challenges the roles of gender and sexuality, Dragonfall is a page-turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat with phenomenal worldbuilding and jaw-dropping twists. Leaves you as breathless as flying on dragonback
Set in a unique and wondrous world, Dragonfall is a soaring and fiery love story that will burn or melt your heart. Lam's prose is delicate and gorgeous yet sharp, and will leave readers pining for the next book
With progressive representation and constant shifts of narrative perspectives, Dragonfall is a unique intervention in the fantasy canon
Its unique representation of a non-binary co-protagonist . . . ensures Dragonfall is a stand-out within the fantasy genre, pushing the boundaries of what the canon can look like
Beautifully written, immersive, and fantastical, Dragonfall evokes shivers with its commanding prose. At the heart is the relationship between Everen and Arcady, two characters with opposing goals who should not, could not, ever love one another-and yet. Readers, ready yourselves for angst, for longing, for a world full of secrets and whispered promises. Readers, ready yourselves to fall
A good read with enough touches of past tropes to engage older readers and enough innovative aspects to interest newcomers. Who knew there was something new about dragons to write about, after all?

Those 2 books gave me all the feelings ! I love how the romance develops - this was my favourite part of the books. The way gender is portrayed in this fantasy world is also lovely. Difficult things happen but ultimately I thought this was a warm story that gave me a bit of respite in comparison to other darker fantasy stories. I d love to read more about Arcady and everen. The story tellers were also very good. I especially loved everen s voice. I listened to some of it while getting a dragon tattooed on my back, which made the story even more special

A queer feel good dragon tale
