Summary

Originally published in 1962 and updated in later decades with a new introduction, Ellison Wonderland contains 16 masterful stories from the author's early career.

This collection shows a vibrant young writer with a wide-ranging imagination, ferocious creative energy, devastating wit, and an eye for the wonderful and terrifying and tragic. Among the gems are "All the Sounds of Fear", "The Sky Is Burning", "The Very Last Day of a Good Woman", and "In Lonely Lands". Though they stand tall on their own merits, they also point the way to the sublime stories that followed soon after and continue to come even now, more than 50 years later.

Gutted!

I was really looking forward to listening to this but I just can’t. The narrator has one of those gross voices that sounds like he’s gargling. I have misophonia so this literally makes me nauseous. And sadly it’s one of those anthologies with only one narrator, which just shouldn’t be a thing regardless of reader quality.

Harlan’s final rant

Harlan Ellison, going off on one for 6 hours. An Inspiration of an author who tells it as it is without caring what those thought.

Great book, good to hear from Ellison himself

I must say I wasn't expecting an introduction as long as this (it fills 8 of 26 chapters), but I loved every second of it. It was great to have Ellison reading it himself, I feel like he added so much emotion to it that just couldn't have been there with someone else reading his words. If you're having trouble with his narration like some of these other reviewers, I urge you to keep going; I have disliked his narration of other works in the past, but here he is really good. He doesn't read all of the stories himself, so if you really can't stand him you can skip to the stories I guess.

narrator's voice ruins it

Ellison, one of the top five great science fiction writers.
The narrator, one of the top five worst narrators.
