There used to be an empty chair at the back of my class, but now a new boy called Ahmet is sitting in it. He's nine years old (just like me), but he's very strange. He never talks and never smiles and doesn't like sweets - not even lemon sherbets, which are my favourite! But the truth is, Ahmet really isn't very strange at all. He's a refugee who's run away from a war. A real one. With bombs and fires and bullies that hurt people. And the more I find out about him, the more I want to be his friend.

Not a moment while listening did I think this was boring
This book is a nice casual listen or read when you are bored. The perfect amount of drama and peacefulness so you don’t get to overwhelmed (something like an Alex rider book would be a example of too overwhelming). As a person who has autism this is perfect for me or people with the same interests.it is nice to see someone younger going through the sort of problem instead of the cliché depressed teenager type. The letters at the start and of the chapters make it feel like your connecting to the protagonist and her father.it’s nice that you don’t see Ella’s dads letters until the end.
SPOILER ALERT
The way Louisa patikas plays Jack as a energetic ball of sugar and Lidia as an arrogant person .the reading is perfect with just the right amount of emotion without making it feel too forced.
Overall, Ella on the outside is a perfect book with perfect reading.if it is your sort of thing I genuinely recommend it 100% worth it
