Renegade dragon hunter Dorn hates dragons with a passion few can believe, let alone match. He has devoted his entire life - a life spent in the twisted body of a half-golem - to killing every dragon he can find. You might feel the same way if one of them had killed your entire family in front of your eyes, bitten you in half, and left you for dead. Killing one dragon at a time is hard enough, but when the irresistible impluse to slip into feral madness begins to overcome not one but every dragon all across Faern, civilization's only hope may lie in the last alliance Dorn and his fellow dragon hunters would ever accept.

Great Read
Ms. Cunningham Captures the Elven History of the Realms like no other. An excellent look at the moon blades and the conflict between the elven subraces. Danilo Thann is one of the best and well developed heroes of the Realms literature.

Her first book and it shows
I remember reading this when I was 12 or so and thought it was decent. Reading it again now years later I see a lot of things I don’t like. The audio portion is good. That is all fine.
But there just is not enough back story given to the main character. She isn’t a Mary Sue imo but more time should of have been taken to develop her. Because I could see some making the argument she is a Mary Sue.
It is hard to love this book mostly because the main character is supposed to be a great fighter But then acts like a teenager or preteen. Which is it is she an amazing fighter, or an immature half breed? cunning assassin, a well traveled adventurer who tracks her prey with efficiency... or a misguided and often times glass half empty unable to read between the lines young adult.
Sorry for being harsh I know this is Elaine first novel and even she has gone on record saying she made mistakes here and there. I just wish they had been corrected before the final product made it to shelves.
I want to like Arilyn a lot and even made D&D adventures with characters themed after her when I was a teenager but I cannot ignore the inconsistencies in her character flaws that i personally see. Now I wish I had spent more time as a Danilo fan. He should of turned into the main character imo.

Pretty good
In a book based on a D&D world, I hope to be provided with a good story and characters that do not feel like they are bound by table top textbook rules, but also being able to fit the characters and story into the table top textbook rules. As a player, that's what makes reading a D&D book enjoyable. You know the rules of the world and the author can't take outlandish liberties. In my mind D&D novels are made to help enhance your play by concentrating on Role play vs Roll play, but there has to be bounders. This book was a pretty good story but the characters seemed to drift from class to class without character development, and I could never fully understand what their abilities were. The character's challenges seemed "low level" until the very end. Not a great FR's book.

Classic Forgotten Realms. Good start to the series
A Forgotten Realms fan will like this book. I especially like Danilo Than. Arylin(sp?) and Danilo have that spark that is often missing when 2 characters are brought together. Overall I think this is a great start to the series.
