Story
This is the story of Athena, or Sherine, to give her the name she was baptised with. Her life is pieced together through a series of recorded interviews with those people who knew her well or hardly at all - parents, colleagues, teachers, friends, acquaintances, her ex-husband. The novel unravels Athena's mysterious beginnings, via an orphanage in Romania, to a childhood in Beirut. Story
At the end of the 19th century, the young missionary Henry Drummond was asked to replace a famous preacher. Though at the beginning he did not convince the audience, they were soon captivated by his analysis of the words of the Apostle Paul. This sermon, The Greatest Thing in the World, has become a classic and is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful texts ever written on love.

Story
As lead singer and songwriter for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis has lived life on the razor's edge. Much has been written about him, but until now, we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.

Story
A toxic ideology rules the world of extreme competition and individualism. It misrepresents human nature, destroying hope and common purpose. Only a positive vision can replace it, a new story that re-engages people in politics and lights a path to a better world. George Monbiot shows how new findings in psychology, neuroscience and evolutionary biology cast human nature in a radically different light: as the supreme altruists and cooperators.

Summary
Eventually, Maria's despairing view of love is put to the test when she meets a handsome young painter. In this odyssey of self-discovery, Maria has to choose between pursuing a path of darkness, 'sexual pleasure for its own sake', or risking everything to find her own 'inner light' and the possibility of sacred sex, sex in the context of love.
A daring modern fable about the nature of love and sex.

Good book. Bad choice on the reader.
I like Paulo Coelho a lot, but didn't like the reader of this book. Very think and pompous accent. He gave a sense of distance from the character. Perhaps if it would have been a woman... The story is very interesting from the main characters point of view about sex, sexuality and prostitution.

Interesting but unrealistic love story
I can see why the story is compared to a fairy tale. I prefer Veronica decides to die. The dark side the human experience isn't explored in this story leaving it a little unsatisfying. As always Coelho asks some thought provoking questions. This is a good read but not, in my opinion, his best work.

Inspiring and memorable
Time slips past when listening to Eleven Minutes has an eventful and unexpected life journey of Maria unfolds. Maria's character is brought to life through the intense delivery given by Emilia Fox which stays with you after the story has ended. Eleven Minutes, my second Coehlo read, has encouraged me to go on to read many more.

Amazingl look in to a not-so-alternative lifestyle
I selected this book based on a recommendation. I had serious reservations about it before starting .... but quickly I was drawn in. The writing style, the guidance of explaining how a 'regaulr' girl can get involved in something so extrememe via rational/a small steps is amazing. Fantastic descriptions of the life of an '11 minute girl' with many insights/high and lows...
I wished it could have gone on longer... shame that there's not an unabridge version. I shall certainly be seeking out the "full" version in paperback...
Highly recommended.

Good start - became boring.
I enjoyed the first chapters of this book and rather liked the narrators. I found the concept interesting but it was as if Paulo Coelho ran out of inspiration and decided to write about sexual fantasy. I found some of it fairly nauseating and otherwise was simply bored. I really wanted the book to end. I would not really recommend this book.

Terrible story.
I suppose those that like the 50 Shades horror have appreciated this book as well. I found it offensive to my human spirit and you females. I'm so tired of people being such followers of darkness and cruelty and using it as some sexual fantasy. There are rooted psychological issues going on with the likes of humanity:(

Best book in many years
This is best book i have read in many years, it fills you up, energizes and gives answers. I am in love with the story and Coelho's talent to express the magic of love, desire and search for inner harmony in his unique and captivating way. The story touches, brings all of the inner hidden desires and thoughts to the surfaces and acts as a mirror by looking at which you see a reflection...
