 A mediados de la década de los sesenta, tres jóvenes sacerdotes españoles, inconformes con el régimen franquista, sintieron que en España "no había nada que hacer". Optaron por unirse a los movimientos revolucionarios en América Latina. Trabajaron en parroquias de Bogotá y Cartagena hasta que fueron deportados por sus actividades subversivas. Entonces regresaron clandestinamente a Colombia para incorporarse al incipiente Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), en cuyas filas había muerto su héroe, el cura revolucionario Camilo Torres Restrepo.
