Summary

Framed for a crime she didn't commit, a wrongly-imprisoned space captain's only chance at freedom is to abduct a fearsome alien war commander.

Sub-Captain Eve Traynor knows a suicide mission when she sees one. With deadly insectoid aliens threatening to invade Earth, the planet's only chance of survival is to get the attention of the fierce Eon Warriors. But the Eon want nothing to do with Earth, and Eve wants nothing to do with abducting War Commander Davion Thann-Eon off his warship. But when Earth's Space Corps threaten her sisters, Eve will do anything to keep them safe, even if it means she might not make it back.

War Commander Davion Thann-Eon is taking his first vacation in years. Dedicated to keeping the Eon Empire safe, he's been born and bred to protect. But when he's attacked and snatched off his very own warship, he is shocked to find himself face-to-face with a bold, tough little Terran warrior. One who both infuriates and intrigues him.

When their shuttle is attacked by the ravenous insectoid Kantos, Eve and Davion crash-land on the terrifying hunter planet known as Hunter7, designed to test a warrior to his limits. Now, the pair must work together to survive, caught between the planet and its dangers, the Kantos hunting them down, and their own incendiary attraction.

Too over the top

Have been spoilt reading fun sci-fi romps of Laurann Dohner's Cyborg series, so I expected a similar book based on the blurb. After almost an hour, where practically every other word uttered by the female is f*ck, the story was so poor, the narration was so over dramatic making almost every statement sound like a cliff-hanger could not continue one minute more.

Save yourself 6hrs, find another book.

The Book

Wow! A totally awesome, action packed and steamy rollercoaster Sci-Fi adventure romance that had me on the edge of my seat...

OMG, Anna Hackett has done it again! 'Edge of Eon', the first book in her brand new Science Fiction Romance series Eon Warriors is filled to the brim with adrenaline pumping action that had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end, proving once again why she's one of my all-time favourite authors, regardless of genre. Whilst 'Edge of Eon' isn't exactly what I'd call a romance, the primary setting, Hunter 7, really doesn't allow for that, it is very definitely a love story... forged in adversity, with a truly life or death struggle against ugly bug aliens who want to rule the galaxy, on a planet that's been specifically created to try to kill you... but despite all that, the main characters still manage to find a time and place to indulge in a little steamy action of their own.... and gain an unexpected friend... I absolutely loved this book!!!!

Where to begin? That's probably the easy part, but without giving spoilers? That's a toughie of the first order! The main players in this Universe of the future are split, naturally, into the good guys and the bad guys. Fighting for the good guys are the Terrans, obviously from Earth, and the mostly warrior Eon, a species that shares a common ancestor with humans, but first contact about thirty years ago was so undisciplined and chaotic on the part of the Terrans that the old King of the Eon Empire severed all contact and banned them from ever entering Eon space. Then there are the bad guys, who really are ugly bugs in various forms and make up the insectoid Kantos race. They're greedy and destructive, wage war like swarms of locusts and have ambitions to rule the galaxy, starting with Earth. They plan to strip the planet of everything including their new food source - humans. The Kantos have been nipping at Earth's territories since they first noticed it's existence and are building up to a major attack. Earth needs help... but their methods of going about getting that help leave a lot to be desired!

Space Corps Sub-Captain Eve Traynor has spent all of her adult life in Space Corps and in return for her loyalty and dedication what did she get... stabbed in the back and used as a scapegoat! Now, to add insult to injury, they're using the lives of her beloved sisters and the promise of freedom to force her into what can only be described as a suicide mission into Eon space. The plan was simple, kidnap Davion Thann-Eon, the best War Commander the Eon have and bring him back to Terran space. Executing the plan..... not so much... and that's where I'm going to stop before I give too many spoilers.

I absolutely loved this frequently humorous, adrenaline pumping, steamy in more ways than one, all action space adventure and can't wait to read the others in this series. The main characters are tough as nails fighters with the occasional soft spot for the people they love as well as one that really shouldn't have existed, but I adored Shaggy in all his guises and I'm still trying to work my brain around what happened with him, and more importantly, how! I eventually decided the planet was lonely and wanted a friend.... no, you'll have to read the book. I'd love to know what conclusions, if any, other readers came to about the apparent impossibility of Shaggy, may he have a long and happy life. There is a true mate happily ever after here and although not a cliff-hanger ending, towards the end of the book there is a lead in to 'Touch of Eon', book 2 of the series which involves Eve's elder sister Lara. I'm totally hooked and devoured this terrific story with relish. I've given it what feels like a measly 5 stars and really wish I could give it more, maybe Amazon could add a + or something. I'd give it loads of those! I've added 'Edge of Eon' to my list of books I'd rescue if the house was burning down and I'm sure I'll be reading it again in the not too distant future. It's also on my 'read again' list where I'm pretty sure it'll join all my other Anna Hackett books as permanent residents. Since originally writing this review, I've re-read this book at least three times, as well as listened to the audio book.

The Audio

I got this as an ebook when it was first published, and I'll freely admit that I've read it a few times since then, but I now have intermittent problems with my eyes, so I've turned to audio books to fill my need to re-read my favourites. I did try audio books a few years ago, but the narration was so bad, even dreadful, that I gave up on them for a while, however, Anna Hackett seems to get significantly better narrators than some I've listened to and Vivienne Leheny, the narrator of this book is pretty good, actually, one of the best I've heard. She seems to understand the all action, gritty nature of both the characters and the story, maintaining the edginess to the very end. She really is very good, I wasn't disappointed in any way, so I got all the other books in the series that are available as audio versions to back up my kindle versions, just so I don't get withdrawal symptoms when I can't read them. The audio versions also have the added bonus of allowing me to do other things whilst listening. I find I listen a lot more than I read these days and have already listened to this one several times since getting it. I was lucky enough to get a free code for this audio book, and as I had already posted an honest review of the ebook several years ago, I decided to update that review with my personal opinion of the audible narration, especially as I have been so disenchanted by audio books in the past.

First Anne Hackett book and I'm really impressed. The story line is great and fun.

Vivienne Leheny's narration is brilliant and brought all the characters to life.

Looking forward to book 2

Original SciFi Action Romance Story!!

An absolute gem of a Sci-Fi Action Romance Story! Anna Hackett never ceases to amaze me. She has created another original Sci-Fi idea that stands apart from many SciFi Romance books out there. Not only do you have a strong female human Heroine, and an attractive Hero who happens to be a War Commander for the Eon Race, there is a story that is built based off of strength, grit, and passion. I loved every part of this book, and it definitely receives 5stars from me. Excited to see where Anna Hackett will take us with this Series. Book #2 Touch of Eon is available now I can't wait to get my 'ears' on the Audiobook!

Vivienne Leheny really knows how to bring out humour, emotion, action, and tension to a scene. She narrates her characters so well, and brings them to life! I loved her narration from the Galactic Gladiators Series by Anna Hackett, and I'm so glad she is narrating the Eon Warriors Series! Worth the listen! 5star Narration through and through.

Great new series!

I have always enjoyed Anna Hackett’s books and this audiobook, the first in a new series, was really fast paced and entertaining. The heroine is serving time in a prison for something she didn’t do and taking the fall for an Admirals incompetent son. When offered a mission which would get her out of prison, the tough soldier decides its worth taking, because it means saving Earth from their enemy the Kantos. All she has to do is kidnap the Eon War Commander and convince him to help Earth fight the bug aliens. THe kidnapping goes okay, but they are hit by Kantos enemy fire on the way back to Earth and crash on a bizarre planet the Eons use to train warriors. It’s deadly in itself, but when the Kantos pursue them onto the planet things get really dangerous. At the same time, something hot is happening between them. Narration was well done. Looking forward to the next audiobook!

What an incredible world

Oh Eve is the best heroine I have seen in a while. She is tough, loyal, and very caring. Davion is the best his planet can create. The journey these two have will have you laughing, cheering, and on the edge of your seat. I have always been a huge fan of Anna Hackett and this new series is a must read. If you love sci-fy romance this is a must listen too. The narrator Vivienne Leheny does justice to the characters. She captures their feelings, ups and downs, and voices amazingly.

Holy space dust, this is alien romance gold!

“Don’t lust after the War Commander you abducted, Eve!”
Action, humor, and heat… my favorite kind of alien romance. Bonus: this series matches alien alpha males with equally alpha females. I do so love when the gals are forces to be reckoned with.

The story falls more on the space opera rather than meaty sci-fi end, so you need to suspend belief a bit (there’s an entire world that changes its landscape like a holodeck… just go with it). I kind of wish the Eon men were a bit more alien; other than being bigger and having a symbiote, there aren’t any horns, tails, or other *ahem* extra appendages for her pleasure. Still, these have the perfect ratio of story to smex, with three hot (but not too crass) scenes starting at the 3 hr mark.

While I normally prefer dual or duet narration, Vivienne Leheny is phenomenal. I’ve enjoyed her in traditional sci-fi due to her ability to sell the action. She sells the sexy with decent male voices too. The only minor quibble is that she narrates all of the books in this series and each H/h pair sounds similar. Given that the first three books feature sisters Eve, Lara, and Wren, a little more differentiation would have been nice.

For comparison, I enjoyed:
Anna Carven’s Dark Star Mercenary series (alpha warriors, books 1-4 available in an omnibus)
Ruby Dixon’s Corsairs (blue suede alien pirates, or try Ice Planet Barbarians for sweeter aliens)

I didn’t care for:
Grim/Tornians (dubious consent and ditzy/dainty damsels…yeesh)

Sci-Fi Romance!

This is the first book in the Eon Warriors series, a Sci-Fi romance. Eve and Davion are two strong characters. Eve, a Terran warrior, is badass, smart, strong, and sassy. Davion, an alien war commander, is handsome, patient, and protective. They are perfect together. I liked the banter, the slow burn romance, the push and pull relationship, and the and sizzling chemistry. The storyline is fun, action packed, suspenseful, and sexy. The story has action, sizzling attraction, and romance. Some scenes are hilarious. The world building is amazing. Vivienne Leheny did a great job with the narration is great. Looking forward to listening to Touch of Eon, the next book in the series. This is a great Sci-Fi Romance!

Too Much Action???

These two could not catch a break! I got so fed up of yet another huge obstacle in their way, it actually grew tiresome. I don’t think it’s worth a whole credit, but ok-ish listen to pass the time.

Anna Hackett’s book are so entertaining

I just finished the entire gladiator series and moved on to the galactic Kings. When I finished those series, I reread and listened to them all. Now I started the Eon Warriors series, the world/planet building, tough educated and trained to kick butt human woman was lead in this first book by Sub-Captain Eve Traynor was falsely imprisoned by her employer and in order to gain her freedom and save her sisters she must kidnap the War Commander Davion Thann Eon to force the eon to help save Earth from insectoid aliens. But the sparks fly when Eve let’s her live and let live attitude free on the warrior training planet she crashes on with The war commander. Ten times worse than survivor they have to depend on each other to survive the Kantos assault. I really liked the chemistry and witty banter between the two who quickly develop a respect for each other as their mutual attraction erupts. On to the next in the series. I am addicted.

Gripping

I made a mistake of listening to this book before bedtime. The adrenaline this book evoked kept me up all night. I spent most of the time in a self hug waiting for the strife to end. I was enthralled, bewitched and entranced by the chemistry of the characters and those Bugs were so vivid , I might have nightmares. But mostly this book was so convincing that if the aliens are coming, you might find me at the top of a building with a welcome sign. Surely if I cannot find a mate on earth, he must exist somewhere out there. The King was intriguing. I know he must have a book and I am tempted to skip to that. But on to the second book in the series.

Joyride of a story

UPDATE: The series books are a bit repetitive. I wasn't a fan of book 2, book 3 was fun but I wasn't feeling it anymore so jumped to the last book. It was pretty seamless as it could work as a stand-alone, so I closed this series in 4 books to satisfaction. It could be done in 3 with skipping book 2 which it just filler imo.

I actually wish I hadn't waited to start this book (series) because it was a really fun listen. Lots of action, good sci-fi, and hot sexy scenes that were inline with the story. I liked all the characters and I'm glad to see most of the books are already on Audible so it will be nice to binge the series (tho with the description of the King I'm tempted to jump straight to that book lol).

Vivienne Leheny did an awesome job and had me feeling all the emotions with her voice acting.

If you are on the fence, I strongly recommend you just go for it, especially if you have listened to other space warriors type books (e.g. Tana Stone, Presley Hall, etc.). This is one of the better stories in the genre so well worth the listen.
