About this listen

Julius Caesar has been assassinated. A nation is in mourning. Revenge will be bloody... Rome's great hero has been brutally murdered by his most trusted allies. While these self-appointed Liberatores seek refuge in the senate, they have underestimated one man: Caesar's adopted son Octavian, a man whose name will echo through history as Augustus Caesar.

Uniting with his great rival Mark Antony, Octavian will stop at nothing to seek retribution and avenge his father's death. His greatest hatred is reserved for Brutus, Caesar's childhood friend and greatest ally, now leader of the conspirators. As the people take to the streets of Rome, the Liberatores must face their fate. Some flee the city; others will not escape mob justice. Not a single one will die a natural death. And the reckoning will come for Brutus on the sweeping battlefield at Philippi.

The epic fifth novel in Conn Iggulden's bestselling 'Emperor' series.

Superb book ruined by a dull narrator. I've listened to the whole series which has been fantastic, gripping and with lots of plots and intrigue. I would recommend that you either read this yourself or skip it all together as the narrative is that poor.

Superb book ruined by a dull narrator.

Would you try another book written by Conn Iggulden or narrated by Michael Healy?

Story fine but awful narration killed it for me. CL work on Rome is riveting but sadly no match for the cure for insomnia which is Micheal Healy.

What did you like best about this story?

The great insight and detail into Roman life.

How could the performance have been better?

By MH not turning up!

Do you think EMPEROR: The Blood of Gods, Book 5 (Unabridged) needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There are many more Ceaser's so why not.

Bloody awful narration

The narrator was hugely disappointing and really spoilt the book for me. A couple of times I nearly gave up listening but as it was the last in the series I persevered. He was so bland, hardly any expression, in fact at one climax of the story, when he read" Engage and attack", it sounded like "fish and chips twice please." He had no personality and totally ruined my enjoyment of the book.

Disappointed by the narrator

Would you listen to EMPEROR: The Blood of Gods, Book 5 (Unabridged) again? Why?

No. narration poor. Could not even pronounce Authors name

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Much less expressive than narratorsof previous books. Glenn ester was the best

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No too long

Any additional comments?

Conn Iggulden is brilliant.

Great final book in the series. Shame about the narrator. Would rather do a 'Brutus' than listen to his dreary uninspiring voice again.

Great climax to the series

Fantastic end to a great series, I only wish the serious extended further into Octavian' s reign.

tremendous!

This series of books are a great read, this particular book is not a great listen. Whoever this narrator is, should be taken to one side and made to listen to his own reading of this fine book on loop for eternity. It’s like he’s reading some instruction manual rather than an epic novel, the only time a tiny bit of deviation comes through it’s as if an American is attempting a Cockney accent. Siri could have done a better job (or seeing as who owns this platform, Alexa would have given more life to it. Get the kindle version, your ears deserve better.

Great book, diabolical narration

this is a great book let down by the narrator. sorry but he just seems bored reading it.

another well written book

I am a big fan of the author, have read and listened to all this series, sufferring 3 changes of narrator.

The first was brilliant for the first 2 books.
The second was OK for 3&4 and at least worked hard at vocal dexterity, timbre, tone change and characterisation.
Just his tonality was jarring and pronunciation was at odds with modern listeners.

This last narrator was unbelievably bad!!
Monotonal, drone, no characterisation, pronunciation all over the place, often lost me through lack of interest and even managed to put me to sleep 3 times!!
A sincere wish to follow the story to the end was my only motivation despite an overwhelming urge to switch off and delete the audio.
Please Audible, never use this guy again or you will lose authors their sales and their fans! & you will lose subscribers!!

Great story - terrible narration

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Five books in the series and three different narrators who progressively get worse. Shame as the story series is so well written. It's common in all withe Last Kingdom and Conqueror series both of which are equally as good have the issues with the narrators changing .

Why oh why do they change narrator's
