Double the murder means double the stakes in Georgette Heyer's classic crime story.

Inspector Hemingway has his work cut out for him when a seemingly civilized card game ends in a double murder.

The two crimes appear identical, but were they carried out by the same hand?

When Timothy Harte's young fiancé - a put-upon secretary and suspected gold digger - becomes the inspector's prime suspect, Harte is determined to prove her innocence.

But when he starts digging into her past, he finds it's more than a little bit shady....

Georgette Heyer was no Agatha but her detective stories are still fun, this is a rather ordinary mystery but chapter 16 is an absokute Masterclass of Audio acting and Naration. Expertly done and i loudly laughed out loud in Tesco from one of the characters speeches. (I can't say who as it will be a spoiler)
If you want something light but briliiantly read try this.

Matt Addis really brings these to life! A decent narrator makes such a difference, I’ve enjoyed all of these Heyer detective series so much ,

Fabulous narrator

This is a very satisfying story. What raises it above the ordinary is the high quality of the reading. There is a large cast of characters and the voices are all clear and the delivery unwavering. The narrator was especially good at the little dressmaker who talks nineteen to the dozen in a muddled way; a less accomplished reader would not have been able to carry it off and still found the sense in what she was saying, let alone have enough breath to get to the end of the paragraph but he did it superbly.

Heyer's detective stories aren't as brilliant as her historical fiction, but still enjoyable. and with this excellent narrator, definitely worth a listen.
