Summary
The second volume in the epic Caladan Trilogy.
In the year before Dune, House Atreides is torn apart, caught in power plays among the Imperium, the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, the CHOAM Company and House Harkonnen.
Lady Jessica, mother of Paul and consort to Leto Atreides, is torn from her home and her family. Her choices will shape an empire, but first the Lady of Caladan must reckon with her own betrayal of the Bene Gesserit. Refusing to become a pawn, she must decide if her loyalty to the Sisterhood is more important than the love of her own family.
Duke Leto must stand up to corruption and disgrace, refusing to become a pawn in a violent uprising bent on bringing down Emperor Shaddam IV.
Paul, the heir to Caladan, stands with his friends and protectors - Duncan Idaho, Gurney Halleck and Thufir Hawat - and he must learn to become a true leader before House Atreides spirals out of control.

Not as engrossing as other Dune novels.
Scott Brick was his usual brilliant self. Story is just a little muddled though.

A reason to procrastinate
Another book that was unputdownable. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and constantly found excuses to listen to a little more rather than get on with other things. I'm excited to listen to the next one in the series.

The Lady of Caladan
Excitement and Intrigue, thoroughly enjoyable, the storyline moves at pace. Each time I listen more is revealed and it’s easier to join the dots between this, the main Dune story, and the separate stories of key individuals. Herbert and Anderson are master story tellers. Each of the individual stories stand by themselves even if the reader is not familiar with the Dune universe. My only disappointment is that it ended to soon. I’m keen to find out what happened next.

Good follow up to 1st in the trilogy
Their is plenty to try and get your head around from interplanetary drug smuggling, imperial rebellion, and quite a bit of meddling witchcraft. Sometimes, it doesn't seem like you're listening to a Dune novel until you hear a name but then you're pulled back into the story.
The cliffhanger is annoying, but I guess if you go straight to the 3rd book, it won't be too bad.

Another solid entry
Book 2 of this new trilogy was very enjoyable. The next should see it concluded and the Dune novel begin, so very interested to see where it is going. The narrator, who has done all the dune novels I’ve listened to is great as well.
