Summary
When Ted Simon rode 64,000 miles round the world on his 500c Triumph Tiger, he inspired thousands of motorcyclists to begin their own adventures, including Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, who chronicled their travels in Long Way Round. Nearly 30 years later, Ted Simon took to the road again to retrace the epic journey he made in his 40s. He meets up with old friends and acquaintances, revisits old landmarks and locations, and rediscovers himself, as well as the world, along the way. Dreaming of Jupiter is a remarkable achievement and a fitting sequel to Jupiter’s Travels, the groundbreaking classic of motorcycle adventure.

There and back again
It's funny old loop that our lives follow I read jupiter's travels when I was young. Along with the hobbit and Lord of the rings. My love for two wheels both pedal and motor powered and buggering off on a whim.camping and drifting along. Be that for days weeks etc.. I never travelled liked Ted as far around the world but I have many great adventures. Finding love in unusual places. With a calmness that fell on me whilst living in Spain. With dreaming of jupiter, I have relived and remembered the great stuff and I mean great stuff both good and bad of my formative year. Ted Simon has been an inspiration for me aswell as he has for others. I hope now I can pass on to my beautiful daughter the joys of adventure and of following one's dreams. Because without these how can we ever grow and leave the world a better place than how we found it

Enjoyable but missable
I really enjoyed Jupiter's Travels and really looked forward to this follow up given the huge gap in time between them.
Again, Ted Simon told a wonderful story about his adventure but it just didn't have the same sense of wonder and amazement as his first journey. Maybe it was because he was much older at the time of taking this trip, maybe it was just because the world has changed so much and the last book was a snapshot of a time and world that has long gone, I'm not sure.

Brilliantly performed
This melancholy marvel is a worthy successor to Jupiter's Travels and a brilliant companion piece to it. It's evocatively written, often funny and always honest. But perhaps most of all it is, like JT, utterly superbly narrated by Rupert Degas. Perfect marriage of voice and material.

Awful narration
I read Jupiter's Travels many years ago after meeting Ted on the road in France and was looking forward to listening to the sequel.
The awful negative, condescending, superior tone used by the narrator made even the positive elements of the story, of which there weren't many admittedly, seem negative.
Having briefly met Ted Simon I can't believe he is such a negative character, he can't be as such a seasoned traveller who is open to so many new people and experiences, but that is how the narrator portrayed him.
Hugely disappointing to the point where I struggled to finish the book.
As for the story, it was a very interesting overview of how the world has changed, and probably not for the better over the intervening years between the Travels.

Still the best travel book
First read Ted in 1988 - I loved it - purchased a motorbike and traveled to France - it taught me all I needed to know - it's safer to read about someone else on a motorbike and I switched to 4 wheels - 30+ years still my dream to travel across Africa from London - respect Ted many thanks for all the dreams you are Jupiter

Third time reading to this book
Probably one of the best long distance touring books ever written ! What else can I say , definitely read or listen to this book ! Ted has a great dry sense of humour 😂

A nice follow up to Jupiter's travels.
The book has a nice follow up feel to the original. Gives inspiration for us aging bikers, that adventure can come at any age, though it seems from this it really does help if you've done it before.

A Hero
A modern hero, an inspirational story. A choice half full/empty. This is not an account of a holiday this is Gritt
