About this listen

From the producers of the Maze Runner trilogy comes this fictional oral history of the appearance of dragons on earth, starring Hayley Atwell (Mission Impossible), Michael Chiklis (Fantastic Four, The Shield), Aldis Hodge (Justice League), Greta Lee (Russian Doll, Past Lives), Jimmi Simpson (Dark Matter, Westworld), and a full cast. A riveting listen perfect for fans of World War Z and Sleeping Giants.

Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them. When the defense strategy hits on a breakthrough at the same time Neve receives a lead regarding her missing son, she finds herself torn between what is personal to her and what is necessary for mankind’s survival: hope.

Full cast of narrators include: Richard Tatum, Chioke I’Anson, Gail Shalan, Rez Kempton, Judy Gold, Piper Goodeve, Gregory Connors.

Available in Dolby Atmos on Audible.

l enjoyed the fact that the story sucked you in and enveloped you straight away. It made you feel invested in narrative

The depth of the portrails was riviting and very relatateable.

Good story, I love the interview format with a full cast and soundscape. Very much like a journalist only having access to other people’s point of view

Immersive interviews

I’m a fan of How to train your dragon and the Dragonriders of Pern series of books so I was intrigued to listen to this audiobook. The format was totally different than I’m used to and that took a while to get into. However as soon as I embraced the format I enjoyed listening. The journalistic approach of the lead character Neve (a brilliant Hayley Atwell) was a good one as it made the story believable and real. The visceral accounts of the dragon attacks and their aftermath was difficult to listen to at times. About half way through I almost gave up because the situation sounded so bleak. However, I’m glad I persevered because as in every great story of adventure when all seems hopeless, there comes a glimmer of hope. I won’t give away the ending I will just say that if you enjoy science fiction and fantasy, especially those containing stories of dragons you will enjoy Dragon Day

Visceral and Realistic

This book is so clearly inspired by World War Z by Max Brooks yet unfortunately it doesn't live up to it's inspiration.

My main issue with this book is the reporter Neve, in my opinion she's way to involved with the story or rather the main events of what transpired, what made wwz so Intresting was that the reported was only used as a way for us to hear the stories of the survivors of the war from all across the world. From the start till the end.

While I think it was a good idea to have the Neve tell her own story as a survivor, however with how much she's involved with everything it takes me out of the immersion, it stopped feeling like a book about survivor stories and started feeling more like a generic fantasy book where the main character in this case neve is the main catalyst for all that transpires

Also she's a tad bit annoying.

Overral it wasn't a bad listen, it was Intresting although I'm a bit disappointed it's not as good as wwz was I still think it's worth a listen especially with the dolby atmos making it a fun experience

Intresting but failed to recapture what made WWZ so good
