About this listen

What if Dracula were brought back to life to fight the Nazis?

Ravaged by the Nazi Secret Service during World War II, Romanian resistance forces turn to one of their leaders, Professor Van Helsing, for any way out. To fight these monstrous forces, Van Helsing raises a legendary monster from centuries of slumber - Prince Dracula himself.

Once he was the ruler of Transylvania. Prince Dracula, is, above all else, a patriot. He proves more than willing to once again drive out his country's invaders. Upshot: No one minds if he drinks all the German blood he desires.

In Berlin, when Hitler hears about the many defeats his forces are suffering at the hands of an apparent true vampire, he is seduced by the possibility of becoming immortal. Thus two forces are set upon a collision course, the ultimate confrontation: superpower against superpower.

It is a good book with an interesting story and some memorable characters but the descriptions of events and actions are over complicated. Sometimes less is more.

Needs an edit.

I actually did not listen to the last third of the book, as i lost all interest.
It's not a bad book, an interesting account of nazi war and resistance fighters in Romania. I was fascinated for quite a while, until it became too repetitive to enjoy. The story progressed laterally and had little forward direction.

I appreciated the author's attempt at following the style of the original Bram book. That's the reason i tried to overlook the horrible female representation, and the rampant misogyny.
The female lead (Van Helsing's daughter) is a strong character who fights well and organises raids - yet she is reduced to being described constantly as a woman with incredible beauty and a lovely body etc. I'm patient with male authors but this was bad. The story also devolved into a Twilight love triangle, the romantic interests and obsessions overtook the actual storyline.
So Lucille became an insufferable feminist, and Harker, who brought all the fancy gadgets from England to fight the nazis, became a moon eyed englishman whose idiot obsessiveness over making Lucille his was beyond insufferable. Dracula had grown a conscience and became a emo romantic, and Hitler - i didn't even get to him, i believe he'll make a brief entrance.

The book title suggested a different story, and I'm disappointed that it became stuck on love affairs to such a large degree. Yet, it's a decent book otherwise, if you don't mind all that above.

interesting book
