I really enjot Mark Herron's slough house series but this one I just didn't care for. the character of Sarah didn't appeal vs the slough house crew, and the story went on a ramble at times. Not bad by any means but just not as good as Slow Horses

Having not seen the TV series the book is a gem, I was gripped from the start. Heron literally winds you in like a fly fisherman .

I struggled a bit with this book firstly because of the performance. I found the narrator a bit too clipped and had to slow it down a little so her style didn't irritate me so much. I realise that plenty of people liked the performance so accept it's a me thing. Story-wise, I found myself switching off at times and would have returned it to Audible at one point if I had been able. But then there would be a very fine piece of writing that would draw me back in. What this mostly lacked for me was the dark humour that Herron is so genius at with the Slough House series. I did get to the end, though, and it is nicely twisty. I'd say give it a go but don't expect a character like Jackson Lamb to be lurking within.

Found the narration superb - and the story enthralling even though I bought this audio book after watching the TV show. Enough differences to maker it worthwhile, and I will now be buying the next book to listen too.
