Summary

A sunken treasure. An ancient Biblical artifact. A mystery as old as humankind. On January 25, 1829, the Portuguese brig Dourado sank off the coast of Indonesia, losing its cargo of priceless treasures from the Holy Land. One of these lost relics holds the key to an ancient mystery. But someone does not want this treasure to come to light.

When her father is murdered while searching for the Dourado, Kaylin Maxwell hires treasure hunter and former Navy Seal Dane Maddock and his partner Uriah "Bones" Bonebrake, to locate the Dourado and recover a lost Biblical artifact, the truth behind which could shake the foundations of the Church, and call into question the fundamentally held truths of human existence.

Join Dane and Bones on a perilous adventure that carries them from the depths of the Pacific to ancient cities of stone as they unravel the mystery of the Dourado.

Critic reviews

"A fast-paced adventure with action to spare. Dane Maddock is a hero cut from the Dirk Pitt mold, and 'Bones' Bonebrake is the best sidekick around. If you like your thrillers with a touch mystery and Biblical archaeology, Dourado is the book for you. ( Megalith Book Reviews)

A giant adventure

In some ways this reminds me of the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Clusser with the hidden treasure, the biblical aritifact, the ladies man hero and the unflappable sidekick but somehow it is so much more and I really enjoyed it. I think that is because I really like the characters Maddock and Bones, who with there witty camaraderie and NAVY skills make it a real adventure and has you wondering about the history or stories you think you know. Plus it is packed with action to keep you listening, the religious side did get a bit long winded but was a good and an unusual explanation for the world . This is the second book I have listened too and while not as good as the first book I started with (Contest) it is defiantly a series I will be keeping a close eye on.
When an old friend is murdered his daughter turns to Maddock and Bones, as the only two people she can trust to help finish the job he started. A ship wreck has them hunting in graveyards for hidden treasure and to explains mysteries from the past. But someone doesn't want the secret to come out and have already killed to keep it secret. Can Maddock and Bones find the answers?
I liked the narrator. He uses different voices for the characters and even when so far as to use sound effects as well. A great performance.

An okay adventure story

I found the narration of the story not for me, which definitely impacted my enjoyment of the story. The story itself felt a little chaotic quickly rushing from one thing to the next. If this was a movie I’d have watched it and enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t ever watch it again.

if your gonna use the Bible for your ideas , don't

if u have to resort to using the Bible as your source for ideas for a story and then tell a twisted tale ,it's gonna stink to anyone that knows the Bible, I think that is a very steven Spielberg move an not original at all .
the narrator did a fine job and is definitely talented.

Great Adventure

As a big fan of things like National Treasure or Jeremy Robinson's Chess Team series (which Later also narrates) and other historical/mythological quests, this proved to be a great opening entry into this series. it has definitely left me wanting to dig further into the rest of the (many) books.

Engrossing, well written tale of drama & intrique.

I was looking for a book that would take my interest in the same way as the Alex Lukeman books had done, having listened to all of his books, I needed something new. I am so glad I found Dourado. The story is engrossing, I liked the links to known history and who knows, the story told here may well be true?! David Wood weaves a good tale, well worth listening to. The narrator has an earnest voice that builds the drama well. I can definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to listening to others in the series

A surprising delight

This was one of those books I thought was full of potential but wouldn’t live up to it - I am happy to report that I was wrong. It was an interesting story with a decent narrator and kept me listening right through to the end. The characters were both believable and likeable and the plot thickened about half way through to the extent that I started to crave listening to the book and ended up going to bed early so I could do just that. A creative and entertaining story which I would not hesitate to recommend. This is the first book in the series and I shall be looking to download the next one very shortly.
