The doughnut is a thing of beauty, a circle of fried, doughy perfection - a source of comfort in trying times, perhaps. For Theo Bernstein it is far, far more. An accident at work lost Theo his job (and his work involved preventing a Very, Very Large Hadron Collider from blowing up, so he's unlikely to get it back).

His wife has left him; he doesn't have any money; and news arrives that his good friend, Professor Pieter van Goyen, renowned physicist and Nobel laureate, has died. By leaving the apparently worthless contents of his safety deposit to Theo, however, the professor has sent him on a quest of epic proportions. A journey that will rewrite the laws of physics. A battle to save humanity itself.

This is the tale of a man who had nothing and gave it all up to find his destiny - and a doughnut.

As always such a clever book although you have to concentrate to follow it all!

Love Tom Holt!

I liked the plot and found it to be a quirky fictional tale. Not the best I've listened to though.. I didn't find myself being engaged or invested, the characters were a bit flat and uninteresting. Still, it got a few laughs out of me and I think my issues are largely subjective. I could see my friends enjoying it.

Ray Sawyer's performance is technically fine and he's well spoken, I just personally found it hard to get through. His voice was lulling me to sleep constantly so my concentration dipped and I had to repeat parts often to make sense of them.

Would recommend if you like quirky silly fiction delivered in a dulcet English voice.

you really have to think about this one, there are lots of twists, just when you think you've got the hang of it off it goes again. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

intresting

The narrator is great and the story is funny if a little bit odd

Amusing and a fun listen.

I love Ray Sawyer's narration as much as Tom Holt's humour - dry. I'm having trouble getting to grips with this story, however. It's a great idea, but I'm not gripped. Will try again.

Need to take another bite of this Doughnut...
