I have recently run into some articles saying that romance and romantasy fiction bears heavy stigma of being 'chic lit' and is often dismissed on these grounds as something inferior, but actually there are some fantastic books there, well-written and full of interesting characters. I thought: "Of course, men usually dismiss anything they perceive as feminine! There must be wonderful romance books out there." I see myself as a feminist so I was very excited to explore these uncharted territories filled with top-notch writing. Naturally, I decided to start with the biggest and most acclaimed title there is.

This book is every bit as bad as I've always imagined Twilight must be (never read Twilight). It feels like fanfic - something of no literary value whatsoever, conceived only to pander to people's romantic fantasies. Its writing is no better than that of mediocre s-f, but at least the latter may have some interesting world-building. All you'll find here are tired clichés and excrutiating cringe.
