About this listen

The floor was stone cold on her bare skin. Her heart pounded in her chest. Not a soul knows where I am, she thought as she took in the darkness around her. And then she heard his footsteps....

When a body is found stuffed into a barrel at a garbage dump, covered in long red lacerations, Detective Jenna Alton and her new deputy, David Kane, rush to the scene.

Nothing ever happens in the small American town of Black Rock Falls, so Jenna believes the victim must be one of two recent missing persons, and she fears for the life of the other.

Both were strangers to the town, but there's nothing else to link them. Jenna knows someone must have seen something, but no one's talking. How well does she really know the people around her?

Then a disturbing clue makes Jenna suspect a connection with other disappearances in the town's history. Just when she begins asking the right questions, she realizes she's being followed. Is she next on the killer's list?

In a race against time, Jenna and David must unlock the dark secret at the heart of the town before it's too late....

A completely addictive detective thriller that will have you guessing right to the end. Perfect for listeners of Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter, and Rachel Abbott.

Excellent story with a traditional beginning, middle and ending, just how I like a book. As this is the first of the series I hope all the rest will be as
satisfying.
A really good book from start to finish and a lovely American reader too. ✅
It was as good as the ‘old days’ in the UK when we only had a radio!

Just going to buy the 2nd book now, Bring me Flowers. I like the title to star with 🙂

I had high hopes for this series but unfortunately the main character Jenna is really poorly written. She is made out at first as someone with military training and a lot of experience but then throughout the book she is frustratingly naive and timid and needs to be saved by the big man anyway.
Choose one or the other and don’t jump back and forth changing a character. It goes beyond different sides one person can have.
Also I’m not sure how many ‘death stares’ and ‘glares that could kill’ one person can have.
Overall not an enjoyable read unfortunately.

I nearly gave up after the first 20 minutes. I found the actions of the Sheriff totally unbelievable, didn’t really like either of the main characters, and the narrator isn’t brilliant! I persevered because I hadn’t got anything else to listen to. It was an ok story, I guessed who the murderer(s) was/were about halfway through, but I didn’t really warm to anyone except the rookie deputy. I will listen to the next in the series and hope it improves, safe in the knowledge that I can return it if I need to. Quite disappointing.

The main female character was so pathetic she wouldn't be able to hold a job down in a sweet shop. This story was very predictable and about 8 hrs too long. Don't waste your time with it.
