Crime reporter Sawyer Brooks still grieves for the family she and her two sisters never had. Raised in a house of horrors, they continue to fight through the trauma - releasing their rage by seeking justice for those who are just as vulnerable as they were. When a little girl’s bones are unearthed in Sacramento’s Land Park and 12-year-old Riley Addison disappears, solving these cases becomes an obsession for Sawyer - one that puts her job at risk. Yet she can’t turn back, and the deeper Sawyer’s investigation goes, the darker it gets.

Summary
An Amazon Charts bestseller.
Her own past could be a reporter’s biggest story in this twisting thriller about murder and family secrets by the New York Times bestselling author T.R. Ragan.
Plagued by traumatic childhood memories, crime reporter Sawyer Brooks still struggles to gain control of her rage, her paranoia, and her life. Now, after finally getting promoted at work, she is forced to return home and face her past.
River Rock is where she’d been abandoned by her two older sisters to suffer alone, and in silence, the unspeakable abuses of her family. It’s also where Sawyer’s best friend disappeared and two teenage girls were murdered. Three cold cases dead and buried with the rest of the town’s secrets.
When another girl is slain in a familiar grisly fashion, Sawyer is determined to put an end to the crimes. Pulled back into the horrors of her family history, Sawyer must reconcile with her estranged sisters, who both have shattering memories of their own. As Sawyer’s investigation leads to River Rock’s darkest corners, what will prove more dangerous - what she knows of the past or what she has yet to discover?
Critic reviews
“Those who like to see evil men get their just desserts will look forward to Sawyer’s further exploits.” (Publishers Weekly)
“A heart-stopping read. Ragan’s compelling blend of strained family ties and small-town secrets will keep you racing to the end!” (Lisa Gardner, New York Times best-selling author of When You See Me)
“An exciting start to a new series with a feisty and unforgettable heroine in Sawyer Brooks. Just when you think you’ve figured out the dark secrets of River Rock, T.R. Ragan hits you with another sucker punch.” (Lisa Gray, best-selling author of Thin Air)

Secrets and Lies
This book is filled with so many secrets and lies with most all within one family. As the secrets are revealed 3 sisters each believing awful things about each other realise the main crux of the problems lie closer to home. With all this being said throw in murders and vigilantes then the mind boggles. A real twisted debacle but a real page turner. I don’t want to give anything away but definitely worth a listen

Count on TR Ragan for consistently solid mysteries
If you’re a fan of T R Ragan then you’re familiar with her formula for writing a story.
1. There is a common atrocious issue.
2. The issue is not being dealt with properly by society or law enforcement.
3. A group of wronged individuals set an agreeable goal to take care of the problem.
4. Everyone has a nickname.
There is always a good story with lots of tension. Often there are multiple plots (as in this book), there are also two locations. The characters are fleshed out and although some have been brutalized they never appear as victims. Only slightly broken.
Jennica Damon does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not for me..
I've read 8 or 9 of Ms. Ragan's books and I thought they were fabulous, not just the story but Kate Rudd narrating. I didn't like this book at all. I didn't like the constant present-to-past, past-to-present without warning. And I didn't like Sawyer, or the Crew.
I don't know if there was any sex but, according to my iPad, the F-bomb was used 37 times.
As to the narration: There's nothing worse than a female narrator who has all the men sounding like a girl. Jeez, it's 2020, time to learn how to narrate. Shoulda' got Kate Rudd!
