About this listen
I guess you could say I was a damsel in distress, and he was my knight in shining armor. But more accurately, I was a girl with a lot of bad luck, and he was a guy with a lot of muscles and tattoos.
Jude "Lucky" Lucketti wasn't just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero, showing up in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face-planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room.
We became friends, and it didn't matter that he was 16 years older than me. We had a lot in common - like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars and our aversion to relationships.
When he approached me with a crazy idea to help me out with my many problems, I couldn't say no.
The arrangement was supposed to be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else. It should've been easy, but it wasn't. Because here I am, 18 years old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.
We had just one rule - no kissing the bride. But we broke that rule, and it sealed our fate forever.
Contains mature themes.
©2021 Carian Cole (P)2021 TantorCarian Cole never stops amazing me with her storyline and her caracters. I love how caracters from other books keep showing up in new books. Lovely surprise here as well!
I love how well balanced her stories are. Age gap is difficult, and she highlights it from all points of view. She doesn't romantesize.
What made this book for me was the story of Skylar. There is so much more to people than what meets the eye.
She is so fragile and yet so strong. A true role model. So mature for her age.
The friendships❤️
The bullying at school.😪 How mean people can be, and how difficult it is for the rest of us to stand up for those bullied.
Made me think back at my own school days. What could I have done differently, to stand up for my self or others.
How encredible strong she is. Her quick comments. I just felt like giving her a warm hug and never let go.
The female boss at the store, where she has a part time job, taking a chanse with a young girl. Giving her opportunities to blossom and grow. To feel safe and cared for. Speaking up for her and being the "adult one", even if the consequence of it almost cost them their marriage.
Jude (Lucky) is just a wonderful caracter. So caring, so hard working. The way he takes care of Skylar and all her special needs, is hearthwarming. Same with his old relatives.
He has his own troubled past that has given him scars in his soul and his own reasons for wanting to help.
Both Jude and Skylar come with a lot of personal baggage. Their journey is long and difficult. Some say the book is to long - I never wanted it to end.
There is humour in this book. Especially liked their visits to his aunt and uncle.
Absolutely adored them!
This to me is a book of life lessons.
1. Never judge a person for their past.
2. Have patience and faith in people.
3. When in trouble - don't be to proud to let people step in and help you.
4.When people who are important to you or the one you love give advice, listen, but when you know their advice is based on them not knowing the whole story, don't let their advice control your desicions.
5. Communicate with the one you love. Always! Misscommunication may cost you your future.
6. Stand up and protect people, when you see them being bullied.
Breathtaking beautiful❤️

Also great character development by the author. Truly an amazing creation of people that felt real and their struggles felt honest and relatable, at the same time as they were different enough to feel new and refreshing as well as kept the trope exciting and different. Their story where truly heart warming and gave me the feels all over. Both happiness and complete devastation from time to time and there might have been som tears of both joy and sadness for the main characters and their struggles.
And let me just say: that the narrators couldn’t have been better. Desiree made a young girl with lots of baggage feel both youthful and mature and Aiden Snow… well… I LOVE his voice. A perfect voice for the MMC.
Just listen and fall in love with this great story and these lovely characters. I promise you’ll love it.
Heart achingly beautiful love story
