Enjoyable listen

This is a very enjoyable listen, simple easy stories, relaxing and fun. Love the acting, so much better than a plain narration. Tom Baker is as wonderful as ever and Susan Jameson is very versatile. A great listen that takes you back to an earlier time in your life whilst whisking you off around time and the cosmos.

Tom Delievers again

I had some initial reservations regarding how this audioplay was going to pan out. I have listened to numerous Tom Baker Doctor Who stories on Big Finish, but this was the BBC, and they kind of do things differently. The BBC have all the experience because they created the show back in the 1960's and so they understand how to pace episodes. A story can pay multiple episodes unlike today, where stories are told in just 1 or 2 episodes. However this is a very big arc, and the acting is second to non given its just an audioplay.
Tom Baker truly brings his old Doctor out into the public like he never stopped playing the character. These kind of audioplays can really be a big hit or a massive miss, if they don't deliver in the first couple of minutes. From the off, the adventure starts, and it instantly draws you in. Tom's voice acting is second to non, the way he speaks, the way his intonations are, everything about his voice draws you in. The 3 story arcs are well written, and easily flow one into the other. It could get easy to be bored after a couple of episodes, but each episode is almost a like a cliff hanger in itself. Each chapter begins a new story within the overall arc of the Nest Chronicles. Which if it was just one big monotonous monologue would get very confusing very quickly and it would be easy to loose one's place within the story.
The BBC out did themselves with this nest trilogy. Every story is exceptionally well written, well voiced acted and an absolute please to listen to. I have decided not to talk about any of the chapter stories or the overall arc because it would unfair to those who have never heard it before. A spoiler in this case would be a bad idea. Just know if you grew up with Tom as your Doctor in the 70's your really not going to be disappointed with this offering. as i said everything flows easily from one nest story to the next. exceptional story telling.

The fourth Doctor rises

I purchased this as I was looking for a lengthy audiobook and although I had not heard of this story was interested because it featured my Doctor growing up and was read by Tom Baker! Imagine my delight when I listened that it was quite simply fantastic and my regret when it finished. Got to mundane stuff but as I've come to appreciate the chapters are named so you can easily navigate and return to parts that you want. it is frustrating that I have great difficulty finding the story that I want in other Doctor Who audio books and some others that I have because the chapters are not named.

The stories are fantastic and not wanting to give anything away I will just leave it at that. I'm not going to give a synopsis as that may ruin the enjoyment but take it from me, the story and especially the performances are first rate. If you want to see why Tom Baker is remembered as well one of the great Who's listen no further.. All the rest of the cast are fantastic, this is an audio drama so it has audio effects which enhance the story even more. This is easily my favourite of my Doctor Who collections so far. Enjoy, I'm going to start all over again now myself

It’s Tom Baker !

What’s not to like when it’s him ! Good cast , well made and Paul Magrs has written a good story . Certainly better than some of the Big Finish releases ( sorry Big Finish).

As brilliant as it promises

I am unconvinced by the whole Big Finish range, finding it very uneven, and often not well written for Audio. I therefore approached this item with trepidation, really relying on the overwhelming positive reviews.

And those reviews are spot on; its brilliant. Tom Baker is at his exuberant best, the chemistry with Richard Franklin and especially Susan Jameson (Mrs Wibbsey is a wonderful character) is superb, and the stories are well written and flow beautifully. Having David Troughton playing Doctor 2 was also a lovely bonus, again the dialogue between the 2 doctors crackles back and forth.

If you're a fan of classic Who and especially Tom Baker's tenure don't hesitate - this is a must-buy.

This book is very bad

So I like dr who books some good some not so good but this one is terrible I really wanted to like it as it’s Tom baker the performances were ok

But the story is not compelling at all and this is the only book in my entire history I was unable to complete as it in parts was sheer nonsense

I would have got a refund but was hoping it would improve once further into the book

I was very wrong, there are lots of good dr who books this is not one of them
