A great book

It was almost perfect!!!! I liked how the story's were made to be like the TV show, although they could have had some story's with Clara in, not JUST Amy and Rory. However that set a side there is only one other thing I personally could have done without and that was how gruesome some parts. The part were they eat the food and then turn into savage hounds (in hounds of Artemis) is terrifying!!! However from a more less personal point of view, the actors performance was good, the quality was good and really it was just basically really good the whole way through!!! I would love to see some of the audio episodes made into actual episodes (but not the art of death or the hounds of Artemis, they were to scary!!!) and I would totally recommend it to anyone thinking of buying it 😃

Great stories, not so great performances...

Great performances from Arthur Darvil and Raquel Casidy, but others definitely struggled, especially with Amy's voice making it slightly of putting. Great though and would give them another listen.

Generally loved it

15 stories, 12 of which I loved. 1 I couldn't listen to. In the main the narration is brilliant, especially when Matt Smith or Arthur Darville as both are simply and utterly wonderful to listen to and they read quite a few between them!! Other narrators are good and enjoyable too so well worth the credit to get this.

With 15 stories I won't even begin to provide any overview of storylinras but suffice to say they are mainly excellent.The reason I dropped a star is my issue with choices of female narrators. I've nothing against female narrators doing Dr who, I mean Catherine Tate was so good in the 10th tales that I have relistened to her stories 2-3 times. But in this book there was one narrator in particular who sounded like she was reading a chic lit story - as I was listening I looked the story up and found that it was written by a chic lit novelist, I mean, just why???? after 20 minutes I simply switched to the next story because I couldn't bear to hear her do male voices anymore.
Thankfully it moved straight into a great story read by Arthur Darville and we were back on track.
Well worth getting for the majority of good stuff and I'll be listening to those stories again.

A couple of stories are a bit poor and a bit poorly read but mostly they're excellent and very entertaining for any doctor who can. A good buy

If you’re a fan this is definitely worth listening to.

Overall:

The stories all include Matt Smiths Doctor and Amy, most include Rory too and are mainly set after they marry.
Each story is good, all the writers have done a great job blending the tv characters into their story. The narrators overall were good, although most struggled with Amy’s Scottish accent. Definitely worth listening to if you’re a Doctor Who fan!

Runaway Train

The overall story is very good. Matt Smith is very good as a narrator, though his Scottish accent isn’t the best in this story.

SPOILERS:

The Doctor needs to get an alien device away from the Confederate army and somewhere safe. Who better than a bunch of outlaws and Amy Pond to help?
Unfortunately the train he escapes on is running out of track, and the Confederate army and a space ship full of aliens are chasing him down.
How will he win this time?


The Ring of Steel

Wow. Arthur really captures you in the story. His voices are very good. The overall story feels rushed but is quite interesting. I’d have liked a little more detail but it’s still worth a listen.

SPOILERS:

The Doctor and Amy land not far from a protest. Curious they investigate...
The protest is about the pylons blighting the landscape which shouldn’t be there in the first place. As the protesters move closer, and tempers rise, the ground suddenly breaks open, tarmac splitting and swallowing people. Amy and the Doctor are separated and the Doctor taken to meet the aliens behind the building of the pylons.
Can the Doctor save the world again?


The Jade Pyramid

A very intriguing story, again excellently read by Matt Smith.

SPOILERS:

The Doctor and Amy land in a village in Japan and take a tour around a shrine. the shrine is said to have magical healing properties... it’s also where the distress call is coming from.

Only monks are allowed through the door the Doctor believes the call is coming from so he and Amy must find a way of investigating, before the artefacts are seized for the lack of tax payment the villagers have been sending.


The Hounds of Artemis

Another brilliant storyline, very well performed, though it felt very broken up. You would be sucked into the story then thrown back out as the diary pages were turned.

SPOILERS:

In Smyrna, Eastern Turkey, 1929, they’ve found a temple to the Goddess Artemis. Upon opening the door those excavating are shocked to find the Doctor and Amy.

Bradley Stapleton is the only archaeologist left, there have been strange happenings and disappearances. Lord Woolcroft is funding the expedition and hopes to find something like Tutankhamun’s tomb. Miss Van-der Cass and Amy work together cleaning the pottery collected as the excavation continues.

The Doctor knows something bad happened here, people on this excavation died and the tomb was lost to time - but how? How does the howling in the night connect to it? And what went wrong?

You get to find out as Helen Stapleton reads the documents she received, to you.


The Gemini Contagion

Great story, brilliantly narrated.

SPOILERS:

Antibacterial gel is common place but now there’s an antiviral gel called Gemini, that can make you understand every language in the universe.

Developed and produced on the ice-planet Vinsk, in the year 2112, the first shipment is about to be sent back to Earth. Two of the ships crew, intrigued, decide to try it. Becoming strange, and otherworldly they begin infecting everyone and the manufacturer Zalnex, and the scientist in charge of creating the antiviral gel, Korn Peloa, realise they’ve made a big mistake.

With Amy trapped on board the ship, almost certain to catch the infection, can the Doctor cure everyone and prevent the spread of the infection to Earth?


The Eye of the Jungle

The story is very good and well written. David Troughton is okay as a narrator- his let down was the accents. I’m not sure what he was trying to do but again it seems the Scottish accent was just out of reach. The cut to the opening theme tune is pretty poor - it could have been much better. This book straddles two chapters unlike the previous books (chapters 6 & 7).

SPOILERS:

The Doctor, Amy and Rory accidentally land in the Amazon rainforest, in 1827. They stroll into the forest and find an abandoned campsite. After hearing a noise they look into the trees to find themselves surrounded by caimans.

After a lucky escape they are taken back to a village which has become the base of operations for a naturalist called Edwin Garrett. He and his team are searching for animals to capture and take back to England to be put on show at London Zoo.

The Doctor, Amy and Rory discover there have been many disappearances in and around the village. These disappearances are blamed on the ‘Eye of the Jungle’. During the night there are more disappearances and the Doctor decides to take Amy and Rory back to the TARDIS where they will be safe... but the TARDIS is gone!

The Doctor will need to keep his companions safe whilst he discovers where everything is going to and retrieves it. As he faces an eye in the jungle though, all bets are off.


Blackout

The story’s okay, unfortunately I found it not as good as the other ones in the set so far. I wasn’t a fan of the narrator. I didn’t really like any of the accents that he did except for the American one as an American narrator he tried his best to speak with an English accent and a Scottish accent and I don’t actually think they work that well, they kind of threw me out of the story, perhaps that’s why I’ve not really enjoyed it as much as the others.

SPOILERS:

Aliens are attacking New York. The Doctor, Amy, and Rory split up, Amy and Rory going together and the Doctor meeting a very special person. Clint Carra Is the only person in New York who says he’s been abducted by aliens.

The Doctor believes him and so the adventure begins. Can the Doctor, with Amy and Rory’s help save the humans of New York?


The Art of Death

A wonderful story, very well thought out, and beautifully told. As with other narrators the accents aren’t quite right but for this story it doesn’t actually matter because you don’t hear them much.

SPOILERS:

A story about Penelope;

On her first day at the gallery, Penelope is tasked with sitting in the paradox chamber and insuring nobody looks directly at it, then the Doctor appears and steals her sandwich!

After leaving a short message and discovering that all the artists who have stared at the paradox to paint it have gone insane, the Doctor disappears.

Penelope’s life continues and she looks forward to the next time she’ll meet the Doctor. But what is the paradox? Why is it there? And how will the Doctor find his way back to Amy, Rory, and Penelope?


Darkstar Acadamy
Written by Mark Morris
Read by Alexander Armstrong

And intriguing story, well written. It’s refreshing that the narrator didn’t try to do a Scottish accent, very well played.

SPOILERS:

There is a disturbance in time that affects the Tardis. After landing in a stable, the Doctor, Amy, and Rory find themselves at a 1950s style school.

After being taken to the headmaster by the prefects at gunpoint, the Doctor convinces the Headmaster that they are school inspectors. The Doctor, Amy, and Rory split up to inspect the school.

The Doctor finds something out of place, Amy finds something out of place, and Rory meets up with a boy who is being bullied, he’s called Milton. Rory and Milton meet up with Amy but before they have chance to find the Doctor they hear screams from the floor above. Racing to see what’s wrong they find spiderlike creatures attacking a teacher. The creatures chase after them and Milton falls but they don’t have time to go back for him luckily the spider like creatures run around his prone form.

But where are the creatures from? Do they have something to do with the time disturbance? And how are they all going to survive?


Day of the Cockroach

Another brilliantly written story excellently told by Arthur Darvill.

SPOILERS:

Something is wrong in the bunker. The Doctor, Rory, and Amy have landed in a dark dark tunnel. They stumble across the body of a dead soldier. It isn’t long until his comrades appear and arrest them for the murder and for the sabotage of the bunker.

Separated they all discover in their own ways cockroaches have become very very big, mutated and formed psychic abilities.

Will the Doctor escape this time? Will Rory be safe?


The Nu-Humans
Written by Cavan Scott and Mark Wright
Read by Raquel Cassidy

A good story, well written and enjoyable.

SPOILERS:

On Hope Eternal people are going missing, people are dying. The Doctor, Rory, and Amy turn up and find one of the dead, and missing nu-humans. The body is taken away by a huge raptor.

As is always the case in these situations, the Doctor, Amy,and Rory are presumed murderers. A nu-human called Trevor takes them to be tried by the elder, Mason.

Mason realises that Rory and Amy are pure humans. Possibly the purest humans in the Empire. She decides, very ineptly, to take Amy and Rory’s DNA. She takes Rory first and sends the Doctor and Amy to holding cells.

But what’s really causing the problem? And can the Doctor save everybody?


The Empty House

Another brilliant story.

SPOILERS:

The Tardis has hit another craft. The Doctor, Amy and Rory set off through the thick mud and heavy rain to find the ship and give aliens some assistance. Rory offers to go back to the Tardis and get an umbrella and wellies for Amy. He presses a button while he’s there and then heads off after them to try and find them, and the ship.

The Doctor and Amy find the ship and then decide to go and find the aliens. On the way they realise that Rory has also followed the aliens tracks rather than come to them.

They arrive at an empty house in the middle of nowhere. Looking around they start to hear sounds, echoes of voices, and Amy realises that one of them is Rory. They realise that Rory, The aliens and the owners of the house must be just slightly out of time.

And now the Doctor and Amy must find a way to get them all back in the same time.


Sleepers in the Dust

A very good story, very well written, and narrated.

SPOILERS:

The Doctor lands the TARDIS in what he believes are the lost caves of Mooke. Not for the first time, he’s a little off with his locations. In fact there’s a Nadurni stood outside the Tardis plainly seen on screen and pointed out by Rory.

The Doctor, Amy and Rory soon discover that the planet is Nadurniss, the Nadurni’s home world. Years ago there was a devastating war which left the Nadurni displaced. Now a scientific team has come to explore the world in the hope that the Nadurni could have their home back.

But the planets now under quarantine. The Nadurni on the science team coming down with an unknown infection that’s resistant to everything they’ve tried so far. As the horrifying reality of the situation is discovered, the Doctor will be forced to make a difficult decision: will he find a cure? Or should he meddle with time to thwart the Prokarian’s?


Snakebite

Good story, the narration was good too.

Spoilers:

The Tardis lands in the middle of an experiment. After the scientists, Doctor Elehri Mussurana and her husband and lab partner Ernst Wharner, pull Rory and the Doctor out of the room the experiment continues, with Amy and the Tardis still inside. Watching onscreen and having no way to stop the experiment, the Doctor and Rory watch Amy and the Tardis vanish.

Amy finds herself in a different place. She meets some of the inhabitants- they’re cobra like humanoid creatures. She discovers their world is dying and they are looking for a way to survive.

When the Doctor realises what has happened to Amy and the Tardis, the Doctor, Rory, the lead scientist, and her husband decide to re-run the experiment and hope that they will be taken to the same world as Amy.

But is everything really as simple as it seems?

loved the TV show, so happy these books are available. well worth the one credit. sound effects work a charm. well read. we need to shout about audio books. they are so good.
I must give a special shout out to Raquel Cassidy, For her narrative and voices. I hope to hear more Dr who read by her.

What did you like most about Doctor Who: Eleventh Doctor Tales?

The stories where all interesting, thought provoking, energetic, thrilling and in some places a tiny bit scarey

What was one of the most memorable moments of Doctor Who: Eleventh Doctor Tales?

the very beginning of "The art of death" when the voice says "Penelope" I found that a little scary. and "Darkstar Academy" stood out for me as well.

What three words best describe the narrators’s voice?

Some brilliant, some not so good

I wished that the chapter's would show the story title so I could choose which story I wanted to listen too rather than having to guess, the same can be said for a lot of collections. It is nice for the first time to listen to it all the way through but after I like to be able to choose what I want to listen to, which is difficult when you don't know where anything is.

Also some of the readers where trying to accents and put on the characters voice unsuccessfully, I think I would rather they just read in their normal voice than trying to do a character of accents unsuccessfully.
