Summary

What dreams may come....

Mulberry is a three-story Victorian in the Hamptons, the perfect summer retreat for the Bradley family. Forty years ago a family was murdered in the house. Now, the bloodstains have been washed away, and the grisly killings are just a chilling local legend. But something unseen still waits in the shadowed hallways and antique furnished bedrooms.

For psychiatrist Bert Bradley, his wife Alice, budding teens Stacey and Richard, and innocent five-year-old Lissie, the summer begins with days at the beach and neighborhood cocktail parties. But all is not right in Mulberry. The cellar door won’t stay closed. Lissie wakes screaming with night terrors. Strange, vivid dreams spread like a contagion to all the Bradleys. The sins of the past have never left Mulberry; they are slowly spinning a web around the unsuspecting family. Shocking secrets will soon be revealed and the innocent will be drawn inexorably toward a night of terrifying bloodshed.

Not For The Faint Of Heart

This is horror and sex in every paragraph, no holds barred and not for the squeamish. A great murder story from the best in slasher fiction to incredible scenes of sex to match and better any pulp fiction. An interesting listen with great narration by Jenny Bacon adding to the atmosphere of the novel. The book rewards an adventurous listener. Enjoy.

Narration

I do not know what she was trying to do but the narrators constant gasping for breath and deep breathing. Became more and more distracting. By the time I got to the end I was sick of it. Having listened to 1000s of books I have never heard a reader sound like this.

Unique and disturbing haunting

This story is about past horrors being repeated in a haunted house. There are various atrocities among families occurring including hauntings, torture, rape, adultery, brutality, orgys and murder, among other things. The book was extremely hectic yet intriguing. It will definitely make you gasp and cringe. The plot was built up cleverly with interesting twists and climaxes. Jenny narrated a variety of characters in an absolutely brilliant way. She was perfect for the story and performed the horror better than any group of narrators. I genuinely thought that there were different performers for the different characters. She had excellent intonation and character voices, and added to the scary and disturbing themes in the story. She is one of the best narrators i have heard. I recommend this unique story to anyone who is curious about such a disturbing horror and would like a wild ride. Not recommended for sensitive listeners. Note: This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this objective review voluntarily.

Absolutely awful narration

This audiobook was very difficult to listen to -- not because of the story, which was pretty good, actually, but because of the overly melodramatic narration, which was absolutely awful! Jenny Bacon's breathy performance was not just distracting, it was off-putting and cringe-worthy. She neglected to pause at the end of some sentences while placing pauses between some words where no pause should exist. Some of these pauses were even inappropriately long. She did give characters distinctive voices complete with accents, but even these were often overly dramatic and poorly enunciated. She tried to "act" this story rather than read it and she totally failed. I'd give her performance negative stars if I could. As I said, the story was actually pretty good as horror stories go. It could have been categorized as a psychological thriller if it weren't for the supernatural elements in the story. I did manage to finish it -- barely -- although I did speed up my player in order to get through it more quickly. Wasn’t horror put in wrong category

This is more a psychological thriller. I wasn’t impressed at all. Thought it was going to be a haunted house story, not mostly sexual.

This book will leave you speechless!

40yrs ago, during a devastating hurricane, an unspeakable horror occurred at the house on Mulberry Ln. This summer, psychiatrist Bert Bradley has rented that house for his family. When strange occurrences begin, Dr. Bradley starts an investigation...the results will shock you...and scare you as well. Think a combination of The Shining and The Amityville Horror...you just might not want to listen to this before bedtime...lol I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Disturbing

The beginning is disturbing, the middle is disturbing, and the ending is disturbing! But I love this book!!! The twists in the book I never saw coming. I do have to say there may be some trigger points for some people. And the narrator's voice is a bit breathy. You can tell she is trying to "act" the part but so close to the mic I was a bit irritated. Other than that this book is crazy! And good!!

incest, child molestation, rape...repeat

I am 5 hours in and I can't justify spending any more time on this. The only thing I know about the characters is their sexual preferences. It started with molestation, the victim grew up to be a pitiful human being who raped his wife over and over, because she had been raped before they got married. A brother gets aroused by his sister...where is the haunted house? 5 hours in, everyone is laughably oversexed. Maybe the house in the story should wear a ripped bodice on the cover. Porn is free. I don't need to spend a credit on it. Why do people revere this book? I see a lot of people loved it as a kid. I'm assuming it had the cache of a playboy under the bed. I'm not a prude. Just get to the point.
