Summary

In this popular book, Dr. Ray focuses directly on discipline, answering over 100 of the most common and most frustrating discipline questions parents ask. Sibling quarrels, bedtime issues, temper tantrums, whining, willfulness, school, tattling: If kids do it and parents face it, this book aims to address it—with a healthy dose of humor and down-to-earth practicality.

GREAT book!

Filled with fantastic ideas—several which I’ve already been doing...but so many great ideas! For parents of already pretty good kids, and those struggling with kids who are a bit more (ahem) “challenging,” read this!! (Or should I say...listen!)

LOVED IT!

You can throw any other books about child discipline in the trash! Dr. Ray corrects many misconceptions that I worried myself about over the years. He has really good ideas that can be implemented for children of all ages. My favorite detail about him and his book....is his mindset comes from a Christian perspective.....in other words hes more interested in my childrens morality then their self esteem etc. His ideas teach virtue, and that is ultimately what I want for my children.

Excellent

This was better than expected. It seemed almost every topic was something we faced with our kids, aged 2, 4 and 5. I feel like this is an answered prayer. Praise God and thank you Dr. Ray.

Solid, common sense for parents

Dr. Ray is so on point. I discovered him from EWTN Catholic radio, and from there, I found his books. He is a Father of NINE himself, and he’s the real deal.
I have read and listened to so much conflicting parental advice in the last few years when dealing with my two 4 year-old twins...it’s really been a minefield. I can’t tell you how many children “psychologist” websites I have wept over because I thought, “ oh no ...I’ve done the wrong thing with my kid here... and here...and here ..” I would drive myself nuts with guilt at the thought that I wasn’t doing the exact “perfect” parental thing in each and every situation in dealing with disciplining my children. It’s so refreshing to hear Dr. Ray REMIND me of what I already instinctively know...That I have WAY more common sense in dealing with my kids than I think I do ( and that I should stop second-guessing myself in every little move I make in dealing with them.) He reminds me that no one is better equipped to handle my children than I am , since I know and love them best. It’s really just as simple as that. Don’t let the so called “experts” (many of whom don’t even have children of their own) make you feel inadequate as a parent and disciplinarian or make you feel as if you’re doing something wrong by imposing compassionate yet sometimes firm guidelines for behavior within your household. If you’ve been having problems with your kids acting up like I was, then this book will help. It taught me that sometimes you need to look inward as to how you’ve been handling them and the problem behaviors they are exhibiting. Sometimes we as parents are just simply yelling or talking too much to them about bad behavior And why it’s unacceptable to us, but we are not really imposing any disciplinary action as consequence to the bad behavior -and that is what is really key in rectifying it. See? We just forget common sense. This book was a very easy and wonderful listen... in fact, I’m actually going to go back and listen again, chapter by chapter, this time with a notepad and pen in hand to jot down all the great ideas that Dr. Ray gives for every specific type of “bad behavior” type of situation you can imagine! He has even given me confidence in myself in how I will plan to deal with my twins as they become (gulp) teenagers!
Highly recommended.

A must-read for every parent

Common sense discipline that every parent should know and practice. Where could our society be if the average family heeded this advice?
