Summary

2021 Audie Award Winner for Best Romance Audiobook

An Amazon Charts and Washington Post best seller

From New York Times best-selling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story that started with a boy and girl and heats up when the man and woman reconnect.

I’d never forgotten him - a man I’d yet to meet.

Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break.

Until one day, it did.

Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing.

Griffin forgave me, and somehow we were able to rekindle our childhood connection. Only now we were adults, and that connection had grown to a spark. Our letters quickly went from fun to flirty to downright dirty, revealing our wildest fantasies. So it only made sense that we would take our relationship to the next level and see each other in person.

Only Griff didn’t want to meet. He asked that I trust him and said it was for the best. But I wanted more - more Griff, in the flesh - so I took a big chance and went looking for him. People have done crazier things for love.

But what I found could change everything.

Critic reviews

"Jacob Morgan and Andi Arndt share the narration of this highly charged romance.... Morgan and Arndt both emote as their characters exchange "dirty letters" and sexual taunts that grow steamier and more erotic, including descriptions of BDSM sex play." --AudioFile Magazine

"An anxious, agoraphobic heroine takes center stage in this optimistic contemporary from Keeland and Ward...Griffin and Luca’s letters are endearing and believably intimate.... Readers motivated to see this unlikely heroine succeed will forgive the more fantastical indulgences of this light, escapist romance." --Publishers Weekly

Flight Or Fight?

Wow!
This story really resonates with me. Although not the same condition, mine mimics the same path as the main character Luca. I too get anxious about going out; I panic when surrounded by large groups of people and one by one, as my condition worsens, my world gets smaller, as friends become fewer and fewer because they dont have the time to get to understand my situation.
So there comes a point where you either accept life as it is, or you fight to change it for the better - Flight or Fight!
Another really well plotted story by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Empathetic to the end. A love story included too. Brilliantly narrated. I didn’t want the story to end. I thought this story was well written and would have no problems in recommending it to other readers/listeners. Go on dip your toe in.

Oh my goodness!!!

I read works from these writers from another app and I'm so so INCREDIBLY glad that I moved to audible to continue exploring the work /stories (I'm not saying that apps... Like.... Erm.... Moments... Are bad.... but I've found that you get a cropped version on there of several books I've reread/experienced again on here).

I laughed my way through the story even though there's a lot of difficult times for the characters.... I loved it... It also had a few canny saucy moments.... I REALLY REALLY don't want to spoil it but if you're a "cryer" like me, you can guarantee that you will be sobbing towards the end..... So prepare yourself for it!!

Ooooooooooooo.... What to read now?! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤯😹❤️

not a fan of the male narrator

story was great! personally i did not like the male voice, something about hos tone, like he just read out loud, and also, there was a lot of "mouth sounds" and breathing. But, still a great book :-)

Started off amazing and then drifted off

This book was great to begin with, but by the end it was more like an insight into therapy for agoraphobia, rather than giving you insight into the characters and their relationship development. The focus was too skewed. It got a bit dull and anticlimactic by the end after the book lost its way. Shame after a strong beginning!

DNF

I was so excited to listen to this book but after 1 hour cannot handle anymore. I’m of the mindset now where I don’t torture myself listening to something I’m not enjoying.

I couldn’t get into the story at first because of Luca’s name, all I could think of was Luca Magnotta the male murderer. I usually connect with female characters with a traumatic past but his one just didn’t work for me unfortunately.

Usually I like both narrators but I feel like Andi is becoming almost boring to listen to and Jacobs English accent was just bad. Like seriously why is it so difficult just to find an English male narrator if he’s going to narrate with an English accent. You could quite clearly tell it was an American guy, it’s a shame because I really do usually enjoy Jacob’s narrations.

The letters from griffin seemed extremely juvenile, and not like they were written by a what 25 year old man.

Lastly the authors. I usually quite enjoy both of their work separately, but I find when they work together it really is hit or miss. I thought hate notes was one of their best collaborations. This however did nothing for me. I do wonder if I would have got further with a physical copy.
