Summary
Dalton Fairfax, Lord Ashbourne, has always flaunted the rules of Regelence high society. Despite being the heir to the marquess of Ravensburg and cousin to the Townsend princes, Dalton found his calling in the military, first in the Intergalactic Navy and now the Regelence Special Regiment. Finally home, in the same city as the parents he seeks to avoid along with a painful past, Dalton jumps at the chance to help his planet by taking on the role of bodyguard to the heir of the duke of Eversleigh.
Blaise Thompson, Viscount Redding, strives to prove himself worthy of carrying on the Eversleigh legacy as the next Regelence IN council member. Maintaining his stellar reputation isn’t easy for Blaise, especially while keeping his outrageous younger brother in line and foiling his rival’s personal attacks. Ever conscious of living up to his responsibilities, Blaise has no time for romance, not even with a lusty special forces soldier.
But opposites don’t just attract...they sizzle. And when the only way to stop a scandal that threatens them both is to compromise their principles, Blaise and Dalton are forced to confront the risk of losing everything...even each other.

Narrator is a bit affected.
I am not a fan of this narrator. He tries a bit too hard. The story is overly confused as his depictions are over the top and complicate an already vast cast of carachters.

Love love love this story
This series has to be one of my favorites. J.L. Langley’s sciregency world is brilliant and full of entertaining characters. This is probably one of my favorites so far. The reader is one I’ve listened to in the past and liked but unfortunately he doesn’t seem to know how to say of the basic word required for this book like cravat. It’s infuriating. The readers for these books should be British and it’s a shame they went with pretty generic American male readers. But aside from the readers all four of the books in this series are fabulous. I can’t recommend them enough

Great Story, Poor Narration
The story is a great continuation of the Sci-Regency series, however, with the change of narrator this book in the series misses the mark. I just finally bought the ebook and read the story, because the narrator's voice sounds the same for almost all of the characters, of which there are many at this point in the series. I kept having to backup and review who was speaking and to whom they were addressing. This is an example of why a narrator should have some level of performance skills instead of just reading the words. He does not speak in a monotone, but where there is somewhat of an accent, it feels forced and at times hard to understand. It is always risky changing the narrator in the middle of a series, especially when there are returning characters that have already been established, but this change suffers more than most that I have read. My recommendation: skip the audiobook and read the ebook.

Fun sci-fi love story. Original world-building.
Narration:
I think the narrator’s performance really fits the quite proper vibe of the regency-like setting of this story. I loved that he tried to incorporate that into his narration. I very much enjoyed the audio version of this story and loved K.C. Kelly’s take on Blaise and Dalton. I also liked the different voices he did for the secondary characters. There’s quite a cast of them, so that can’t have been easy to do.
Story:
I really like how this series brings such an original sci-fi take to the regency genre. Very unusual and fun.
Blaise is very sheltered, almost too innocent even, which is why I found it a bit incongruous to see him shed his principles and risk his precious reputation so easily afterwards. Although I suppose he was overcome by the power of his love for Dalton. Blaise’s parents are supposedly very loving, but strangely aren’t in the picture much and not overly warm when they are.
I liked the storyline on Dalton and his parents far better, troubled though their relationship was. That brought some intense emotional moments in the story, on top of the developing romance, and gave Dalton’s character extra depth and a nice chance to grow. Dalton’s definitely my favorite.
The banter between Blaise and Dalton was very entertaining and sweet depending on the moment and I really enjoyed the “galactic” swear words and expressions. Most of their relationship plays out behind closed doors and with a lot of sneaking around. That did annoy me at times, especially near the end. I feel that Blaise could have been a bit more assertive and forthcoming by then, standing up for his man and all that. Though all’s well that ends well and things wrap up great with an only slightly predictable grand gesture.
The stage is also teasingly set for the next stories in the series and I’m definitely intrigued enough to want to see how they’ll play out.

I tried. I really really tried. I LOVE JL Langley. I love KC Kelly. However, his performance did not work for me with this book. I couldn't get in to it. This audiobook has been lingering in my listening que since its release. I would constantly it because the narrator's performance bothered me. In the end I hope this novel is a success for J. L. because I am a fan but please pick someone else for the next books in this series. Michael Lesley, Joel Leslie, Greg Tremblay/Boudreau, Michae Ferrialo, Shannon Gunn, Gomez Pugh, or Ramon de Ocampo. Someone who could do cultured voices. I absolutely hated the cadence/rythm of the narration. It's nitpicky, but it annoyed me. KC Kelly is more suited for westerns/shifters like her With/Without stories not the Relegence series.
