Summary
Der Mord an einer jungen Frau bereitet der Polizei im sizilianischen Vigàta Kopfzerbrechen. Es gibt keine Hinweise auf die Identität des Opfers und das Gesicht ist vollkommen entstellt. Einziger Anhaltspunkt ist ein Tattoo auf der linken Schulter: ein Schmetterling. Als Commissario Montalbano der Sache nachgeht, findet er heraus, dass die Unbekannte zu einer Gruppe junger Russinnen gehörte, die von einer Institution namens "Der gute Wille" nach Italien gelockt worden war. Angeblich wollte man die Frauen mit einer seriösen Anstellung vor der Prostitution retten, die ihnen in ihrer Heimat gedroht hätte. Der Padrone des Vereins ist Montalbano trotz "guten Willens" vom ersten Augenblick an unsympathisch. Dass ihn sein Bauchgefühl nicht trügt, hebt seine Laune nur bedingt, denn was nun folgt, hätte Montalbano sich nicht einmal in seinen kühnsten Träumen ausgemalt...
