Summary

Tess Hughes is on the run from her abusive ex-husband. The problem is, he’s a detective and there’s no place on Earth he can’t find her. Solution? Hide somewhere that’s not on Earth - the Kindred Mother Ship. That’s how she winds up posing as Pairing Puppet - one of the robotic mistresses that service the unmated males of the Kindred who need a little sexual stress release from time to time. Of course, Tess never actually performs a Pairing Puppet’s duties - she hides every time a new ‘customer’ comes in. But then she gets caught out in the open...at exactly the wrong time.

Garron of the Rai’ku Kindred has a dragon sized problem and it’s living right inside of him. His dr’gin, the ravenous beast that lives inside every Rai’ku male, is trying to get out. Problem is, if Garron lets it escape, it will eat the first person it sees. He’s burning with need and the more his desire grows, the greater the danger to those around him. Desperate to quench his smoldering desire and keep his dr’gin contained, he goes to the Pairing House...and chooses Tess.

Now the two of them are on the run. Expelled from the Mother Ship, Tess is once again menaced by her abusive ex who will stop at nothing to get her back. Garron has sworn to protect her but the beast inside him is more dangerous than any outside threat could be.

Can Garron protect Tess from the man who has sworn to destroy her without letting the beast inside him run free? If not, she will surely be...Devoured

Whispering??

Whispering was s creative way to represent the inner voice but I'm not sure I liked it. The overall story was interesting, if not a bit predictable. Overall it was a classic romance where the H rescues h from a bad guy....where he saves her as she's saving him.

Whispers...really? 😬

Although I liked both the story and the narrator, the whispered character thoughts implemented are cringe worthy. This type of thought depiction began a few books back and my dislike for it was immediate, ruining an otherwise pleasurable listening experience. I would love to stay a loyal fan, but I am now rethinking future purchases of this audible series for this reason.

Theme not my favorite, but I always love the Kindr

While the subject matter is terrible (it is a lot to take in), Garron on the other hand is a super sweet guy, even once he changed, he wasn’t as bad as he thought he was going to be. I love the world building and the Kindred men, the one thing that I would change up is the women, they are too meek. Just once I would like a Kindred who has to deal with a kick ass female and still have the smexy time all the books have. Narrator is good, the whispering is a bit overdone, but it doesn’t bother me as bad as other reviewers.

It was an Okay listen

I feel like this was a great story. I absolutely hate how the narrator uses a whispering voice whenever each character is thinking to themselves. This happens throughout the entire book. If that can be fixed this would be an outstanding listen.

This One Made Me

I've been enjoying the Kindred for a nice Long while and never have I had a complaint worth making but this one made me. The narrator has a nice voice but it's sounding like he's reading a textbook and the whisper is killing me .... and I'm only a third way in. I trying so hard to finish. I have no doubt in the story it's the Listening. Sorry, Bill. I'll Love You in the next one.

Had a personal issue with the audio.

This is the first kindred novel I have listened too. It’s book 11 so obviously I enjoy the stories and characters. Most of the audio was well done and I enjoyed the unique sounds given to important characters and his overall tone is pleasant. But he whispered the two main characters inner thoughts to themselves. There are a lot of inner thoughts. It was a bit odd at first and it threw me off the story a little but I listened on. I like to listen while doing chores at home or data entry at my job. But two hours later I am now affected by it and will be switching to just the ebook after my tasks are done. Outside of the whispering I didn’t mind William Martins performance he sounded great, when not whispering. The way he lowered his voice and the breathy rasp he used, it grated on my ear. This may sound dumb but if anyone out there has anxiety and is particularly sensitive to sound it may irritate.

Another Winner!

This book is as good as the last book; great story line; plenty of action, love, romance, and gore. Found myself laughing out loud at many things, the conscious or voice of reason is a powerful thing. Narration is great. Love the way the books are woven together to keep things going from one book to the next. On to the next book.

Again with the whispering

Again there was too much whispering. I would have exchanged the book but I can’t. So I will wait for my next month credit. The story was very combative in the beginning (only listened to less than 2 hrs).

They are not kidding around with the graphic abuse

I want to start off by saying I love Evangeline Anderson and I own a ton of her books. And I only realized the "contains abuse" warning on this title after I purchased this book. I wish I had just returned it right away. This may be an important read for some because it highlights an incredibly important issue: violence against women. However, as a survivor of an abusive relationship, the last thing I want is to re-live my experiences while trying to enjoy a romance novel.
