Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea....

Police Chief Delaney Reed is good at keeping secrets for the beach town of Ordinary, Oregon - just ask the vacationing gods or supernatural creatures who live there.

But with the first annual Cake and Skate fundraiser coming up, the only secret Delaney really wants to know is how to stop the unseasonable rain storms. When all the god powers are stolen, a vampire is murdered, and her childhood crush turns out to be keeping deadly secrets of his own, rainy days are the least of her worries.

Hunting a murderer, outsmarting a know-it-all god, and uncovering an ancient vampire’s terrifying past isn’t how she planned to spend her summer. But then again, neither is falling back in love with the one man she should never trust.

Our still obtuse heroine FINALLY realises what should have been obvious from the last book regarding her childhood love. The resolution of this book’s mystery is yet again handed to/explained to her by others without much effort on her part. The bigger storm that is brewing is neither resolved nor left at a high point - it’s just sort of... trundling along. The narrator is also fine, the tone of this book suits her a bit better than the first instalment.

Still just okay

Really enjoyed this second book. Builds on the characters and the background of the town folk. I'm looking forward to the next. The narration from Khristine was amazing as always!

Thoroughly enjoyable!

One minute the story is trotting along nicely, the next (pretty much any time Delaney and Ryder meet) it becomes complete pap...

"Oh! He's so overwealmingly attractive I just can't think about anything else..." "Oh! I just start panting for sex whenever he's near me," "Oh, I really just want to throw myself at him because my self-esteem was surgically removed and my brain is mush!"

{GAG!!!}

It really is in need of heavily editing to cut (or at least tone down) the absolute drivel in those scenes.

Can't recommend this one.

Patchy
