Summary

Every good Dick needs a sidekick....

Actor Tom Lewis’ world came crashing down when a honey trap and tabloid exposé outed him and put pay to his flourishing career. The housewives' favorite was most well-known for his role as Detective Fox in the quaint British series, Malmesbury Murders. But after the media speculation about his sexuality, the show is in hiatus, and Tom hasn’t worked six months.

Now things are getting serious; money is running out, and Tom needs a job desperately. So when his agent offers him a seasonal acting job, he reluctantly agrees... and takes on the role of Santa for a top London department store. This decision changes Tom’s luck.

When Tom overhears two unidentified store workers discussing a job to get a little Christmas bonus, he realizes the job is of the illegal sort. Now, Tom could call the police, but then again, wouldn’t it be great for his flagging career if Detective Fox saved the day?

So Fox is on the case, and as every good Dick needs a sidekick, Tom decides a sexy young elf named Eli Mason will fit the role, in more ways than one.

Note: This is an M/M romantic comedy with gay sexual content.

Fun Christmas Novella

This is a fun Christmas novella about Tom who's an actor who has taken a gig as Santa at a
department store after having his career put on hold due to a scandal.

Tom meets his Eli who is his elf helper at the store.

This is a funny and clever update on a british mystery, even though this was a funny caper (hence the title) it had some hot sex in it as well. Tom and Eli make a great couple, I can't wait to see what happens next with them and hopefully solving a few more mysteries along the way.

As usual Gary Furlong did a great job narrating.

“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

Hilarious romp, with bonus elf costumes

A brilliant short read, with some hilarious moments (driving down the high street in particular). One of my favourite narrators, so great voices.

Light & Entertaining

This was a light entertaining read/listen. The setup was silly and fun but got a little bogged down in descriptions of rooms, and the entertainments the store was providing for the holidays.

Gary Furlong was as entertaining as always.

Excellent

I started listening to this immediately after I finished The Shooting Season by the same author. I was certainly drawn in, but could only make slow progress with the audiobook due to the holiday season and illness. So I ended up buying the ebook too.

I love both the story and the narration. Tom Lewis is a brilliant character, superbly brought to life by Gary Furlong. His relationship with Eli the Elf is slightly unusual and all the better for that! The wealth of secondary characters adds to both book and narration and I definitely want to read more about this cast. I also greatly enjoyed the the not so subtle nods to British TV shows and institutions. Truly excellent!

The characters of Det Fox (Tom Lewis) and Eli Elf (Eli Mason) are lovable. they work together and the mystery just adds to the suspense. Great steaming chemistry between the couple. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this couple. Gary did a great job narrating. Given a copy for an honest review.

Great Characters, Perfect Narration

I was looking for something light and seasonal to listen to and found Detective Fox.
This was my first Isobel Starling book and will not be my last.
I found the writing LOL funny and the story plot to be clever.
There were A LOT of colourful characters in this book, and the narrator gave each of them their voice and individuality, which gave this a Christmas movie feel. I have to give an extra nod to Gary Furlong for a wonderful performance.

If you are looking for a British farce heist with a kinky M/M twist, then l highly recommend this audiobook

Christmas Comedy Gold!

Listening to "Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper" was like listening to a Christmas movie.

Gary Furlong really raised the bar with this narration, voicing a whole cast of characters from the moody Northern Actor Tom Lewis, to Eastend baddies. He did it with ease and perfect comic timing. It was just so entertaining and I had face ache by the time I was finished.

The story itself, is very English. It's about an ingenious department store robbery, that Tom- who plays santa and Eli, who plays his elf assistant aim to foil the robbery. The plot is believable and with a colourful cast of side characters, we are swept along not only with the glitter of Christmas, but by the M/M romance between Tom and Eli, and their surprisingly kinky sex life.

The end had me in stitches. This story and the narration are a perfect antidote to the stress of the season.

Terrific narration

Honestly, how have I not listened to something narrated by Gary Furlong before? This audio was fantastic!

The story is well described by the blurb. Told in multiple POV, the plot requires some suspension of disbelief, but this is a fun, quirky Christmas mystery. While it may not be super plausible, it’s lighthearted and amusing, and well-polished by Furlong's narration.

There's an obvious love of the location (I just visited London for the first time and this brought me back in my memories), some kink if you're into it, a lot of humor and shenanigans - and Furlong pitches his performance to easily cover all the nuances of the story.

It's the first in a new series and ends with a strong HFN and the possibility for the main characters Tom and Eli to develop their relationship more fully as the series progresses.

Gary Furlong provides exceptional narration with a great use of character voices and accents, and terrific timing and pacing. He performs this story like an old radio show, and it's just purely entertaining to listen to.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more audios from Gary Furlong in the future.

Marvelous Story & Gary Furlong is Superb!

Fantastic! Leave it to Isobel Starling to combine intriguing characters, amazing chemistry, super hot kink, and an interesting storyline.

A very creative mystery set in London during Christmas time, Ms. Starling takes advantage and paints a wonderful picture of the local scene. Anyone who loves London will enjoy this one, and if you've never been, Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper is going to make you want to visit!

Performed by my all-time favorite narrator, Gary Furlong, nobody reads Starling better. His wealth of accents, comedic timing, and sultry-s^xy voice combine to make this one a smashing success.

Good for the holiday season, or any darn time, Detective Fox is one for the top of the re-listen pile!

Tom and Eli

4.5 stars. I truly enjoyed this fun holiday read. Tom and Eli together made for plenty of spice and some laugh out loud moments. The 'chase' with the bad guy still has me snickering.

Audiobook: Loved the narrator and all the accents he used and kept straight was delightful. Nice, clear enunciation and good pacing.

Holiday Hijinks and Hotness

How can a story be both charming and extremely hot?--you will have to read this story just to see how well the author balanced both. Great story telling as I could visualize everything from the elves juggling and doing their acrobatic routines to the hurried shoppers in the massive store, As usual Ms. Starling expanded my knowledge of kink and it left me blushing a bit--but oh my was it hot. I would be very interested in seeing more of Eli and Tom and the adventures they get into in the future.

In the holiday mood now

I like that Tom's luck got a break via his amateur sluth plans and his smexy sidekick Eli. Entertaining, funny, witty , and smexy. I enjoyed the touch of kink as it added that extra slap and tickle to the whole story . Lots of holiday fun in this cozy mystery. The narrator's voice, expressions, and accents brought the story to life for me.
