About this listen

Humanity's last chance could be a new beginning.

It's been months since the demons arrived and slaughtered the world. The Earth belongs to the damned, and barely anything of civilization remains, but some still fight. Mankind's last survivors remain defiant.

Nestled deep in the middle of the UK's largest forest, a small group of adults fight to remain hidden in the apocalypse. In their care are almost 50 children, perhaps the last children left. Their survival is vital to mankind's survival, but their sanctuary is put in jeopardy when three weary strangers arrive at once. Can the newcomers be trusted? Or do they bring catastrophe?

Defiance is the fourth book in the epic apocalyptic Hell on Earth saga. Follow characters old and new as the twist-filled story continues, providing new threats, mysteries, and acts of human kindness.

Excellent storyline, pretty good narrator, all round a solid and enjoyable experience.

Charles Robert Fox does a pretty good job of narrating here and the storyline is superb, I would say it's the best so far, and certainly leaves an opening for a further book.

The main storyline follows a group holed up in the Kielder forest visitor centre, a Doctor named Chris (surname hard to discern), a soldier named Hannah, and a builder named Tom who, at first, wants nothing to do with the other survivors but ends up being a big hero (not the biggest hero though). I totally recommend this audio version of book four and cannot wait for book five to hit the shelves.

Thoroughly enjoyable

So, I've listened to any amount of Iain's books with the velvety tones of Aubrey Parsons. It's like they're made for each other. However, I can't say the same of this narrator. Mr. Fox really spoils the story. He's dull to listen to and really doesn't know how to bring the story or characters to life. Had he been the narrator of the first book of Iain's I'd listened to I wouldn't have carried on. As the story is a follow on from previous I feel I have to continue...... Please Iain, no more Mr. Fox!! Leave him to the shipping forecast.

Good follow on story....Shame about the narrator

Another one of this book series spoilt by poor narration. Better than Brad Gilliam but not by much. Charles Robert Fox reads like he forgot to put his reading glasses on. Ignoring punctuation, rushing through sentences and mispronouncing words like demon. Very good story overall though.
