About this listen

An explosive thriller from former MI5 officer, Tom Marcus, author of the bestselling Soldier Spy, sees the Blindeye team take down a terrifying threat to UK national security.

When no one knows you exist, you don’t have to play by the rules . . .

Meet former MI5 officer Matt Logan, now part of a totally deniable government organization known as ‘Blindeye’, with full licence to do whatever it takes to neutralize threats to the UK’s national security.

When intelligence comes through that the Kremlin plans to launch a terror attack in London, Logan and the team set in motion a surveillance operation on a billionaire Russian oligarch who may be connected with the incoming threat.

As they dig into the man’s life, they soon discover a network of incredibly dangerous individuals whose plans could tear the nation apart. Battling personal demons of his own, Logan must defend his country from a terrifying enemy, or die trying . . .

Defend or Die is the second in Tom Marcus's breathtaking series featuring tortured MI5 operative Matt Logan, following on from Capture or Kill.

Critic reviews

Praise for Capture or Kill: It's awesome (Mark Billingham, SAS: Who Dares Wins)
Praise for Capture or Kill: Tom mixes tense drama with fascinating insight into the lives of security service operators, to deliver a blistering read (Jonny Lee Miller)
Praise for Capture or Kill: This debut from a former MI5 surveillance operator is one of the most exciting I have read in a long time . . . Every page rings with authenticity, the tension is superbly sustained, and the central character is all too believable: a man wary of the power to kill

Having really enjoyed the other three books by this author, I had high hopes for this one too, but was left disappointed. It’s fiction of course, but I like my fiction relatable, in that I like to imagine that it could actually happen. Whilst that was the case in the first Matt Logan book, I didn’t feel the same about this one. It seemed far fetched to me, the complex mix of characters was in fact too complex, and we could have easily left the Russian connections out and still had the story play out the way it did.

I don’t know. I don’t want to be incredibly harsh, but I just wasn’t feeling this one.

And the foxes. All of the foxes. What’s with the foxes??

Jason Langley, however, who narrated the Audible version did a sterling job and the narration alone is worth five stars, while the story itself only three.

Disappointed

4th book from Tom Marcus and I'm kind of gutted that I'm up to speed without another to start...

thrilling and ridiculously fabulous....

Yet another great storyline from Tom. Looking forward to listening to the next installment.

Jason Langley also has perfect tone for all of Tom's books. Thanks Gents

Another Great Story

A little confusing at times as the main character goes in and out of reality, but a great story nonetheless 👍🏻

Awesome

This book is a brilliant follow on from the previous one. It's fast paced, flowing and full of twists and turns. Furthermore the narrator (Jason Langley) really brings the story to life. I would definitely recommend this series of books, especially for people into series from Andy Mcnab, Chris Ryan etc.

Much anticipated return of Matt Logan
