About this listen

Arden, Lorcan, and Carrick are the men everyone fears...

They are known as the Deana-dhe. Dealing in debts, they steal information and manipulate.

To them, I am Cyn. I'm their original sin. The mute girl they never wanted to be drawn to. The girl who put a spell on them, who became their cailleach.

You see, I'm a modern-day witch skilled in the art of alchemy. A long time ago, I made a deal with the Deana-dhe, and they're back to cash in on my debt.

If I'm the apple they never wanted to take a bite out of, then they're the snakes willing to use me for their own gain. They want me to make diamonds, a drug that has the ability to heighten the senses and manipulate emotions.

They want me to reverse the spell I put on them. But how can I? I may be a witch, but there's no f--king with love.

Debts and Diamonds is a contemporary, why-choose romance with dark themes and a hint of magic.

It was a riveting story to begin with...

but, it never really delivers on the "promises" it makes! I'm not sure if that's down to the fact that there's a 2nd part, but there was definitely lacking something...

In truth, nothing really happens beyond us being told about their shared past 🤷‍♀️

I wasn't sold on the FMC... she was far too much of a doormat for my tastes!

The boys bully her & with very little (barely any) effort at all, she becomes enamoured with them... because they... kiss her... after bullying her!

There are 2 severe cases of bullying & she forgives them all immediately... we're supposed to understand that she does this because she's a good person... but, like I said earlier, she just came across as a doormat to me!

The writing style is beautiful & I did like the skipping from past to present.

The 3 MMCs...

Carrick is just excessive & does become tedious after a while. He's the one who hates their situation the most, yet does absolutely nothing to help it & is just a d*** throughout!

Arden is supposedly the leader, but is also easily led.

Lorcan was my favourite out of the 3. He's both the first to recognise his feelings & also the one who stops every single bullying/fighting scene from getting out of control. He definitely didn't deserve that slap! He felt more like leader material to me than Arden does, tbh!

Honestly, the writing saves it... but it doesn't really hit the spot 🤷‍♀️

mixed bag for me

This was a great story full of emotion and passion but the Irish accent of the female narrator was terrible and the male lead(s) sounded a lot older than they were meant to be. I found it distracting to the story - such a shame as apart from that it was a great find.

Great story - shame about the narrators
