Debates: A Series of Argumentations about the Bible and Its Times, THREE VOLUMES IN ONE. Edited and arranged by Sohel Bahjat, is a structured academic work that explores major questions in biblical studies through a series of formal debates between two opposing perspectives: one defending the historical reliability of biblical traditions and the other applying a critical historical method that questions textual stability, source independence, and literary construction.
Across ten debates, the book examines issues such as the testimony of Josephus, the reliability of the Gospels, the structure of Mark, the historicity of Matthew's infancy narratives, the resurrection, the Exodus, the prophecies of Daniel, and the United Monarchy, presenting each topic through detailed arguments, rebuttals, and counter-rebuttals.
Rather than offering a single conclusion, the work highlights a fundamental methodological divide between cumulative plausibility and rigorous historiographical skepticism, demonstrating how different approaches to evidence can produce contrasting interpretations and inviting the reader to engage critically with the formation, transmission, and historical evaluation of biblical traditions.
